The 72" Chrome bar arrived a couple of days late, rattling around in an unpadded, loose fitting cardboard box. Both ends of the bar were covered in adhesive from extremely chewed up clear packing tape. Why? I don't have any idea but, the tape was too old and damaged to just peal off. The adhesive and bits of shredded packing tape were embedded into the recessed grooves of the machining. It took about a half hour to get it all off using mineral spirits and a brass brush. Once off, I could clearly see the surface of one of the sleeves had pronounced spiral machining. The surface of the other end was almost smooth, with very faint visible machining. Definitely something I would consider a blem or a 2nd. In this case, most likely just a lack of QC. The product description didn't mention if the ends rotate or not. They DO but, it isn't a smooth and bearing like fit. There is a significant amount of play. It is loose and rattly. The ends also have about an 1/8" of throw along the length of the bar, which adds to the rattly feeling and explains why I could hear the rattling before I even opened the box. Those are the negatives. On the plus side, it is sturdy, the knurling is fine, the plates fit fine and it was the cheapest bar available on Amazon. And to be fair, that is what I was looking for. I wasn't really looking for a high end, low tolerance, finely machined show piece. I WAS hoping that it would be as nice as the pictures on the product page. IT ISN'T, but it was cheap, and it will serve it's purpose, adequately. I suppose, in this case with some work you almost get what you pay for...
