An amazing life lived for God
I found this book amazing. I read it in two days. I could not put it down. To give up everything, thinking nothing of yourself only God really places a Christian exactly where he/she should be. David Brainerd is a wonderful example to how we should allow Christ to live through us.Highly recommend .

A Worthy Read
Like David of the Old Testament, David Brainerd was a "man after God's heart." Here was a man who did what he could to reach the Native Americans of his day for God's glory.

Life-changing Book
Seeing how this man lived day in and day out will change your perception of life. As a Christian, we should do everything for the glory of God and pursue holiness with passion. But not many actually live this way. This guy did. And it inspires you to live like he did.If you want your walk with God to be taken up a notch, definitely buy this book!

Same as the cheaper, still-in-print editions
In regards to the Diggory Press edition of Brainerd's journal, I bought it while it was still in print, and consequently, much cheaper. There is nothing in this edition that cannot be found in other editions. If anything, there are better translations. This one has been abridged in certain places and some of the language has been updated slightly as well. I'm a stickler for the original words, so for me both of these aspects are negatives. That coupled with the exorbitantly high prices for this particular edition make it unnecessary altogether. If you want to read Brainerd, secure a more affordable copy. He is highly worth reading. The great prince of preachers, Charles Spurgeon, placed Brainerd as second only to the Scriptures themselves and said every minister would do well to carefully read over his words. Very psalm-ic in nature, Brainerd epitomizes the battle of sanctification: often he is in the depths of despair as he contemplates his sinfulness, other times he is so enraptured with Christ he will inspire your heart to worship. Often I will only read one entry or at most a page of his journal because it is just too rich to gloss over. Reading him too quick misses the point. I've had the book for a few years now and am only about 40 or so pages in, but yet I would rank this as one of the most essential books in a Christian's library. I consider Brainerd to be a friend and keep his journal by my bedside, where it will probably stay throughout my life.
