Sailor Moon 3

Bought as a gift for my manga/anime obssessed 12 year old daughter - she absolutely loves this series! She says the graphics are beautiful, she loves the characters and the story line kept her hanging (and she is now badgering me for the next book!)

My daughter loves it. These mangas are lovely to look at and beautifully made. I almost kept them for myself.

Sailor Moon is an anime that I grew up watching, English version, and then later the majority of the Japanese versions. I love the series, I think it's excellent [although, I didn't realise just how much was about falling completely and utterly in love it was about] I was really excited to start reading the manga! I've been wanting to read it for such a long time! With any luck they'll release new versions of the anime as well.This story, as others have said picks up straight from the cliffhanger of the last book, and ends on a cliffhanger too. [How long to the book?] I loved it, except for one thing - which is nothing to do with the actual storyline, but rather the book itself. I'm not sure how many others experienced this with this version of the book, but my particular version of the book was misprinted. A few pages into the story, the reading method reversed [as in returns to the Western way of reading rather than remaining in the Japanese form]. Shortly after this it reverts back to traditional manga. I'm also inclined to believe that there are a few pages of the story missing as there's one section that doesn't fully conclude the story [when the control room is being attacked and Sailor Moon is at the North Pole].For this reason alone I am reducing the star rating of this particular novel, as it's a pretty obvious thing to miss when checking translations and styles! Otherwise, it's a brilliant read and I recommend the story to anyone interesting in this sort of thing!

...shamefully let down by the translation.You would think that when a company such as Kodansha reprint such a classic, well known manga as "Sailor Moon" every possible effort would be made for the translation to be... well, perfect.Unfortunately, it just doesn't come close. The dialogue is clunky in more than one place, and although possible to follow it easily jerks the reader out of the story on more than one occasion. There is even inconsistencies in the naming of the MAIN VILLAIN. Metaria or Metallia - only one of them can be correct, so why are both used?The inclusion of suffixes (-chan, -san etc.), while it doesn't particularly bother me, is also a huge error. Translated manga (emphasis on translated) should not contain these. They are a quirk of the language that, while perhaps interesting or charming to some, are not correct English, and may even require some people to look them up in order to understand quite how a person is being addressed.As the title indicates, the art is beautiful and I think the colour pages of this issue are the best and brightest yet. It's certainly worth buying to read such a classic, it's simply a shame it wasn't translated with more care.For a long term fan of the series, this release is more than a little disappointing.
