Q: How much weigjt can sit on it? Could it be used as an extra seat?

I wouldn't do that. The only thing that I sit on the top are extra blankets and things. It's not made to be a seat.

Q: Is the lid removable or able to fold backwards flat? I’m looking to keep it open as a shoe basket in the entryway.

I use this trunk to store my shoes an also a small coffee table in my R V The top would be easy to remove an folds back the liner can be removed to be washed also Happy with this chest
