Works,but get ready to mingle!
O,boy...The expensive top notch router. To start – if I have to buy it , will do it ,agean. But get ready for some adjustments. I am not saying it’s complicated – it works fine as it is.But you don’t buy Lamborghini to drive on 3rth gear, right! The router came the next day, Saturday – be prepare to sign for it, or its redelivery.Unpacked quickly with shaky hands, old router Belkin N600 out, here comes the mighty Nighthawk! I recommend highly to change the password quickly, before your friendly neighbour change it for you.I wanted to reach my top Virgin speed. With my wireless laptop the improvement was tremendous – old speed 50 Mb/s , new speed 98Mb/s straight-way! On my Samsung Note 3 I hit it 109 Mb/s! Mental, right!Update notice came on the router menu, duly noted and respond it, quick restart – all working. Still happy! In fact I can’t wait to show the mighty Hawk to my teenagers – parents control under my fingers! The app Netgear Genie is working really well – with touch on the screen, you can block users or unblock them.Capish ,boys? No more - ”5 min. Dad!” for you to come for diner! In fact I was getting ready for only praises. But not to be...LOL.And I don’t mean laughing out loud.My boys are hard playing League of Legends warriors and the ping([...]) have to be the best.Soon desperate voices started to come, not praise but pain! Pain was as real as internet game pain can be.It was awful – its rubbish router, where is the old one, my Saturdays is gone, we can’t play, why you are spending money for rubbish...and so, and so and so. I mean, you know how teenagers can be, right? But the speed is still fantastic on the all home network. I was puzzled and ready to give up. But not before fight!1. The router has QoS setup and its coming with some predefine rules all witch I deleted and created new from the port forwarding given here [...]2.”Priority category” was quickly given to the Mac Address's of the warriors.And,3. I am the hero of the house again -the boys’ satisfaction was not as loud, as they previous Dissatisfaction – but quietness can be a present on his own.The rest , you can do so much with this router – You can log in to it from every place with internet, make changes to it - Netgear provides you with free dynamic DNS account for all this ever changing dynamic IP addresses so you don’t have to keep looking , use the FTP possibilities ,restrict or Schedule different time for different users, block them completely or block different services. YOU can also receive alerts and logs through e-mail and more.Overall, don’t give up and work with the router – its excellent product and well worth the money.

Doesn't just look the part.
I have been getting fed up with the minimum spec routers that ISP's provide, in which they spin off as cutting edge amazing pieces of tech. However if you are wanting to do anything other than surf the web more than a few feet away, their limitations show. This router is certainly the first step for someone wanting to make a more robust home network. It is dual band, meaning it functions on the standard 2.4GHz range as well as 5GHz range. The advantage of the 5GHz range is that it has a higher bandwidth and so increases data transfer rates. This also helps with signal range within the house or property that you intend to use the device.Devices process and handle more and more data, as well as using more streaming and cloud based data, and a standard router from an ISP can rarely handle this effectively. This router was a breeze to set up, the initial instructions were straightforward, and once connected to my ISP's router and powered up, the software stage of the set up was also very easy, with the wizards catering for those with a basic IT/networking knowledge, as well as allow advanced users to setup and tweak their new network as they see fit.Whist this does not increase the speed of my internet connection itself, it does improve the efficiency of my devices, prioritising which devices get a greater proportion of speed dependant on the tasks being performed on them etc. The speed within my network has greatly improved, as now this device is the hub of my network, and so file sharing between devices, or syncing itunes from the PC via wifi to the appropriate device is very fast, as well as the WIFI printer being very responsive to printing and scanning tasks. You can also create a data cap for those with limited data packages, or create a guest network for when you have visitors whom you want to give internet access without access to the other devices on the network. The router also has a USB 3.0 port at the front and a USB 2.0 at the back, allowing for a high capacity USB stick to be plugged in creating a NAS drive, or plugging in a wired printer, making it WIFI.In laymans terms, this router is the air traffic controller for your network in your house, managing your network and keeping it optimally running.Definately worth investing in. I would say that the R8000 and higher rated routers would be overkill, unless you have the fastest internet connection money can buy, and you have 12 or more devices running at the same time that download/upload and perform various networking tasks at the same time. I am a heavy networking user and quite a few devices, PC's, Android, Apple, and I have yet to push this device to it's limit. Netgear have done a good just making this functional for advanced users as well as everyday users.

Works with Virgin Hub 3. Hooray!
This was bought to try and combat the awful WiFi from Virgin Media Hub 3. I initially bought an Asus after reading it's reviews-big mistake. Not even Virgin's top broadband guru could get it working so, I thought I'd try this Netgear router and I'm glad that I did. Install took 10 minutes or so and was very easy with straight forward 'quick start instructions. I am not a gamer so upload speeds aren't important to me. What is important is reliable download speeds for a couple of phones, a couple of Samsung tablets, a laptop or two, my Kindle and three Echo devices. Plus a printer. The Echos and printer are, by design, always connected. Phones pretty much the same-connected automatically when home. The Netgear does the job I bought it for and I am happy with the speeds I get when multiple devices are connected. My only criticism is the 5G signal gets weaker about 12 to 15 feet away which is the nature of the beast. 2G seems to reach where we need it to with the lower speed compromise for distance. If you like lots of LEDs blinking and flashing you'll love this router. I haven't looked to see if they can be toned down-if they can be then that's my next job...To summarise: Quite easy and fast to get installed and working on Virgin Hub 3. If only the Echo devices connected to it were as easy to connect. On my Samsung S7 Edge, Speed test consistently hits 300Mb+ on 5G. Still get around 100+ on 2G. Quite happy and can recommend and for not a lot over 100 quid it does what I wanted it to do-give me WiFi speeds of more than the 5Mb I was getting from Virgin's Hub 3-a known problematic piece of junk: Virgin Hub 3 and NOT this Netgear Router. Virgin customers: End the frustrations and put your Hub 3 into modem mode and connect to this router.
