Fantastic piece of kit!!
Fantastic thing really!! The Sony SEL2870 E-mount lens is great for capturing amazing images and videos. I love that it is a wide-angle to telephoto range lens, which gives me a lot of creative freedom to capture scenic shots and tight spaces. The lens is also very lightweight and easy to carry around, which is great for travel. The image quality is outstanding, and the autofocus works really well. Overall, I am very happy with this lens and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great around lens. Designed for the Sony full-frame E-mount cameras, it's normally a 28-70mm but on my a6000 APS-C format camera it provides a around 42-105mm equivalent focal length range.

Good lens.
Works well. Image quality is good, however, it will not focus at less than 8 inch away from subject. Had similar experience with other kit lenses.

Adequate All Rounder So Far
This is an adequate all-rounder lens so far. It's good for portraits and scenery. The zoom range will be adept for most situations. It is light weight and not too long. The auto focus is quick, sometimes too quick when you are prepared to be more patient to get the sharpest portrait. I've not used it extensively or for long enough as I bought it recently. However, I've been trying out a number of lenses including Samyang 30mm, Canon 50 mm, and the Sony 28mm on my Sony A7 ii. At this time, this lens seems to be the most versatile and the one I'm most likely to carry. It's early days, and I'll update this review when I've used the lens for longer and taken many more pics. In terms of value for money, I don't think it should be priced more than £250 when new. There's nothing exceptional about the lens but it seems to be suitable enough for general use.

Really good investment
Got this on Black Friday (so at a really good price) for my son who is studying film production at university. In his own words “Good lens for pictures and filming”. So if either of those are things you are interested in or even if you film content for your online channels, this is a great lens to start with. Highly recommended

similar standard to other sony kit lenses
I hoped for better results, but for landscapes I find this lens lacking colours and contrast and for weddings too dim with its f3.5 aperture. It is light and smaller than the other FE lenses so I do use it but have soon desired to get the zeiss lens to replace it

Great day to day lense
For my alpha ii, this has become my general day to day lense. The small zoom allows for great framing of each shot. Great quality. Can't fault it.

Very poor resolution other than in centre at wide angle
Purchased with Sony A7 as seemed a good value package, unfortunately the lens has not lived up to expectations and on wideangle is very soft at the sides, at 28mm only the middle 50% of the picture width is useable, ok from 50mm onwards only, so no good for landscapes.Returned to Sony for investigation and a replacement shipped but just as bad.Part-exchanging it for a Tamron 28-75 f2.8

Seems like a VERY nice boy?
So far I love it. It appears sharp though rather large sitting on my Sony A6000. It gives 42.5mm to 105 (full frame equivalent) on my dslr equivalent Sony, which is a handy range for many occasions. It has stabilisation also. Overall, quite pleased so far.LATER: The more I use it the more I like it. It is very sharp and focuses quite close. Not certain whether this level of performance would be applicable to full frame? On my Sony A6000 and with practice, it has become rather useful. It is not a do everything lens if such a thing exists. I have three others to fit this camera; 20mm pancake, 10-18 zoom and 50 f1.8; all of which I can heartily recommend as an ex-pro.
