Mosby's Review for the NBDE, Part 1 - E-Book

I didn't have the chance to meet this book from the beginning of my preparation journey for NBDE part 1 but it sounds very good book with much pretty convenient way to deliver the material. For me, its more powerful than the confusing Dental Decks flash cards.

UPDATEI got my scores back and I passed just barely. Just to reiterate, I used class notes on some of the sections. Out of the book, I mainly used the microbio, pathology, and biochem sections. I studied human anatomy from class notes and just focusing on the face. I didn't study occlusion or tooth anatomy at all because I was too lazy and studied last minute (the book was pretty skimpy although maybe all the info were in the charts that i didn't bother to look at). My scores across sections were aproximately the same reqardless of whether i was studying off of the book or old notes. I did score a bit lower in occlusion and tooth anatomy because I didn't study. I guess this book isn't too shabby. Oh, i loved the microbio and path section because it was neatly organized. It would have taken ages to get the different tidbits of information scattered all over my class notes.Yes, I would recommend this book just for the basics and your goal is just to pass.END UPDATEI bought this book to study off of and I can tell you I didn't like it. First off, it just grabbed pictures out of different textbooks and pasted it on there without a good legend. For example, in the biochem section i was looking at the krebs cycle or something and i knew it was missing something i learned in class so i was checking out the figure. The figure had number labels on it for each step of the cycle but the numbers weren't explained in the legend or on the page about the krebs cycle. Also, there was a missing figure in the dental anatomy section. There was the space for the picture and the legend but the figure itself was missing.Now on to how I did on the test. I just took it so i don't know the results yet but i would estimate that only half of the test could be answered by what was in this book which only figures because no way can one 400pg book cover everything that you've learned in your classes. Still I really do wish the book went into more detail because it was quite skimpy in some sections. I did give it a 3 because it wasn't all bad. It was helpful just not as much as I could have wished.All in all, I would advise you to just study your old study notes for class because only a few questions were things that i've never heard before and there weren't that many super in-detail questions. You can probably answer a lot of them if you really knew your subjects.

Use it you pass the test on the first attemp

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS. literally any other source including some guy on the street will prepare you better for the boards.okay seriously though, this book is terrible! This 'review' is full of errors and is very difficult to get through. When I was reading this book it felt like I was gossiping about the NBDE part 1 and not actually learning anything!through out the book the authors talk a lot about dentistry but it often felt like i would ask myself, "why are they talking about this? how is this relevant to the information i need to know for the exam?" That being said there is some good information given in the text but you REALLY need to dig hard to find it. We're talking fire up the excavator and get to work. At the beginning of the section on Dental Anatomy (of primary teeth) it literally says "A detailed coverage of the individual morphology of the primary teeth is beyond the scope of this review, the reader is invited to consider the material in the bibliography" WHAT?! you better believe that "a detailed coverage of the individual morphology of primary teeth" IS fully with in the scope of the NBDE part 1! Also, the sample questions and the sample exam require a detailed knowledge of all tooth morphology. For example, one of the 'correct' responses to a sample question (regarding the primary maxillary first molar) states that the MB cusp is longer and sharper than the ML cusp. This is not correct because while the MB cusp is longer, the ML cusp is sharper. That is just one example of the frustrations I encountered while attempting to get through this book. Learn from my mistake people and get the book that will give you a "detailed coverage of individual morphology" (hint FirstAid).

This book it is a little to dense and hard to read for me. I got it to get ready for the NBDE after practicing for 6 years in my home country. It might be a good option if all you need is a review, but for me it was not the best fit as I had forgotten most of the stuff.The dental anatomy section is VERY GOOD. Highly recommended. Biochemistry is terrible. no was you can digest that.If I had to go back, I would probably go for First Aid for part I.Keep on mind that I went through Kaplan's lessons and books, decks, first aid, and this book...Mosby's was my least favorite out of all of those (except, again, for the dental anatomy part)

So far I haven't started studying for the boards yet,but this material seems legit and complete and I hate to meet a certain amount of words to leave a feedback, I feel like I'm writing an essay

It has helped me to review what I had to, but I still think its too general.Gives you the idea though

Generally a nice book.However loc 16192 ,on pemphigus and pemphigoid....there seem to be a mistake on Hemidesmosome and desmosome. Can that be reviewed for clarification ?

Some of the questions are repeat of part II. authors should note down Part II is far better than part I.Overall, Mosby has good publications. This particular is better.
