My Chemical Romance's 2002 debut, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, was a particularly strident entry in that shifty genre of bands tortuously slamming together elements of emo, hardcore, and even metal. Rightly signed to a larger label (in this case, Reprise Records), MCR have return in 2004 with Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. With the aid of production major-leaguer Howard Benson, they've edited the slight rookie excesses of I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love, resulting in a rewarding, pretty damn relentless product. Ghosts wander through this Sweet Revenge, and the blood-stained lovers of its cover are no joke. "Would I die for you? Well here's your answer in spades...Got you in my sights," Gerard Way wails in "Hang 'Em High." There's also cinematic concepting here--"The story of a man. A woman. And the corpses of a thousand evil men..." the sleeve notes intone. "You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison" begins "In the middle of a gunfight/In the centre of a restaurant." Economic, treble-kicking production, consistently hyper, "Let's get to the next note NOW!" instrumentation, and great thematic songwriting--Three Cheers teems with the influences MCR share with their peers, but recent efforts from fellow travelers "Thursday" and "AFI" don't have this furious immediacy, this coarseness that's so appealing. Album highlights include the propulsive chain shots "Give 'Em Hell Kid" and "To the End," where layers of vocals increase urgency over modernist post-punk, or the raucous "Thank You for the Venom." There's no question of Reprise's high hopes for My Chemical Romance and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. But its accessibility pays tribute to anger and bullet holes in black leather. --Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

MCR Best Album
I first saw My Chemical Romance live at Leeds Festival 2006, they were way down the bill on a sunny afternoon, with Pearl Jam the headliner. Gerard Way and the crew were in full Black Parade outfits and I just didn’t get it. But a year later I bought the Black Parade CD. Now MCR are my 2nd favourite band of all time (after Pearl Jam) and Three Cheers is their best album, probably also my 2nd favourite album of all time after Pearl Jam’s Ten.When I first bought this album I didn’t even like it, it all sounded too same, frenetic, chaotic. No, it just grows and grows on you, go with it, there is not a filler track on here it is all pure perfection. If you are feeling down or angry you can’t beat listening to this album loud, it’s got me through some of the worst times of my life, it has an undeniable energy and feeling, also brilliant dark humour in the lyrics.

Stunning Album From Start To Finish
My Chemical Romance may be best known for their iconic album The Black Parade, but if there was ever an entrant to their discography that could challenge it then Three Cheers For Sweer Revenge would hold the tilte. The vinyl features a slick pull out with lyrics and profiles of each member, and to hear The Ghost Of You crackle on a turntable for such a low price is a baragin for any fan of this band.Im Not Okay might be one of their most well known tracks but for good reason as Ways haunting vocals couple with blissful guitars from Ray Toro and Frank Iero to make even the stiffest of upper lips break out in song.To The End is severley underated and it is honestly worth buying the album just for that.Throw in the electrifying You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison, the harrowing Cemetery Drive and of course the opening track Helena and you see why MCR are so loved, so long after their break up.

A great album, a truly great listening experience
A great album, a truly great listening experience...however, ordered two copies(not at the same time) from music magpie who are usually amazing and the cds were damaged, as in they played but the songs didn't play properly. This has never happened before with music magpie, and sure it's not the actual album, ordered yet another copy from amazon itself so will know for sure if this copy is damaged too. So definitely worth buying, but I wouldn't recommend buying from music magpie on this occasion just to be on the safe side.Edit: nope my amazon copy sis damaged too, know it's not the actual cd, as in that not all cds are like this, as some things play better than my last two cds, and with my last two cds some songs just wouldn't play at all, on this one they do play, just not wel. So just be aware when buying this cd, since all three cds I've bought have been like this, I'm guessing this'll happen with any seller.
