Can I shampoo carpets with it

Basically this machine is a wet and dry vacuum cleaner,if you applied the shampoo by whatever means, you could then remove the shampoo and moisture from the carpet, this is a very powerful vacuum cleaner. This particular model is verging on an industrial cleaner, and was not designed to shampoo carpets.

Do you have to use bags if only using for dry vacuuming?

I don't use bags. use it in my workshop for dust and shavings collection. does a great job.

Did anyone else have difficulty getting the rear wheels to attach? It feels as though the axle is too short - even if I omit the washers.

No I did not have any problems fitting the rear wheels or any other part of the assembly
