What could be more exciting than to discover the most boring gift of a totally black mug can hold the loveliest of surprises??! Can you imagine someone on their Birthday,Christmas etc. opening a pretty mundane gift...oh,yeah...another mug! and even worse than usual...totally BLACK. Especially if given by someone pretty special; in fact,all the better of a surprise if a present from someone more or less expected to be run-of-the-mill........who would've thought???! In fact,this fabulous idea at no great expense,is something rather lovely if a sentimental addition.....great fun if a light-hearted one preferred....but an all-round success whatever you decide if you order . I have chosen for my brother a mug to take to his allotment in his retirement years with images of the two beautiful beloved family cats and names; I didn't expect too much,really,for the price but nonetheless thought the idea to be a nice one for a guy at Christmas. However,I'm writing this review to assure anyone considering buying this that it far exceeds expectations for the cost; it is a sturdy mug,looks totally uninteresting as completely black on the outside,normal white interior.....then once filled with hot drink or simply water....a transformation of truly wonderful images! I requested two cats,not certain if they would both be added but there they were,one on either side in the loveliest detail and names. This is a great gift idea because of the surprise; there is obviously a risk that once given to someone they might think it totally boring to use,so it might be a good idea,as I have,to include a little message to hint that a hot drink might lead to the mug being something more than it might appear to be...!! I recommend without hesitation to anyone considering buying as a gift or even simply to treat yourself...to relax and see a beloved pet or grandchild in a warming drink every time can only be therapeutic in the Winter months!

To start of with I'm very much satisfied with the overall experience. I wanted to buy a bespoke gift for my sister b'day and i choose this magic mug. I am not a tech expert so I wasnt sure how this would work as they claimed in their specs and features. However, I took note of the other reviews thats how I made my mind up. It was delivered two days before they promised(probably- i was lucky).This mug is amazing for such a low price. It is simple and looks basic but at the same much nicer idea as a gift than other customised gifts that I've seen around. It works well and every time it changes my sis gets excited to see her images appear on the mug. its a greater pleasure to see your loved ones happy coz of you, Very very pleased with it. I just wanted to say a big thanks to Stamps R Us for exceeding my expectation. I absolutely love it and much pleased with it. The magic mug was just what I was looking for and would recommend it to anyone. Many thanks.

This mug is amazing! The photo I sent goes all around it and is an amazing size, the mug is deceptive in that it is so dark it gives nothing about the image away, if you put just regular hot water in it the picture shows but is very shadowy, but if you put boiled water in straight from the kettle the magic is released and the full effect takes hold. This was bought as a secret Santa for someone in work and I'm almost gleeful at the thought they'll think it a plain old mug, then will make their breaktime cuppa and behold it's true glory...

Bought two of these mugs for Christmas presents, and was presently surprised by how good they looked. At first I was worried they had not been printed very well but as soon as I heated them up I was impressed by the picture quality. The only thing I would say is the packaging is not very nice if you were giving it as a gift, but can easily be repacked. Also I was not offered a preview as stated in the description, but this was probably because I had a simple design. Overall a good product, would definitely recommend.

My father is a hobbyist photographer and coffee-drinker and never knows what gifts to ask for, because anything he wants is probably quite expensive! I was pleased when I saw this gift which plays into both of these hobbies, as I could get a customised coffee mug with some of our family photos he's taken on them!It's worth mentioning that I ordered the mug from 'the T bird', they allow you to email multiple attached photos and give details like positioning and text to add to the mug.The mug was dispatched the next day, which is fast considering it needed to be printed, and arrived a couple of days later.The packaging is inconspicuous with no pictures of the mug on there, so while the box is a little boring it's not going to give the gift away.The biggest drawback is that the image isn't entirely obscured, think of the heat changing layer as a slightly opaque layer. It looks a bit like it's smeared with thick marmite, so while the image is mostly non-visible, you can just about make details out through the layer.The mug changes colour very quickly. If it's not filled with liquid all the way to the top the unfilled area will still slowly become visible, but at a slower rate than below the water-line.It's very important you don't wash this mug in the dishwasher, I didn't make this clear and the first wash was in the dishwasher. This made a tiny dot of the mug not dark, so I'd imagine after many washes this could cause damage to the black layer.Overall I'm really pleased with the mug, just beware that if you are putting images with a large contrast between different areas (like black text on a white background, or a cartoon with clearly defined edges) you will be able to make this through the black layer.
