Consoletronic Cat5e Single Socket RJ45 Ethernet Network Face Plate

Does the job.
I needed this for a loft being converted into a bedroom as I was running cat5e cable from my server room to the new bedroom, wifi is pretty patchy up there. It does the job and is of good build quality, there is even space for a second keystone by removing the two blank fillers to the sides of the included keystone.I only gave it four stars as the included screws were very small and did not reach into the metal back plate I was using to mount it. However luckily I had some longer screws lying around so it was not too much trouble, it takes two of the same type of screws you would use to mount power outlets. To install one of these you'll need a punch-down tool in order to "punch down" the Ethernet conductors into the terminals on the back of the keystone. Ethernet cables follow either the A or B wiring schemes, both ways will work but B is the current standard.

Good quality. They work
These are perfect, in spite of their price. I wired the house with CAT-7, and these screw into standard single wall boxes, leaving a professional finish. The connectors are colour-coded, making installation very easy and idiot proof, no matter how cross-eyed you are after running cable for two days straight. When working with CAT-7, it is best to use a punch-down tool (they're quite cheap, and well worth it) to get it to connect properly. Also, strip as little of the outer insulation as you possibly can.

You buy cheap you buy twice!
I was trying to replace some MK Logic Plus Cat6 RJ45 data outlets which my 16 year old son had battered into retirement. They cost £10.00 and hadn't lasted too well so I thought, that for £2.00, I couldn't go far wrong, right? WRONG!I bought three of these outlets and not one of them worked. I use an expensive professional KONE insertion tool and have wired many data plugs and sockets but the connections on these units do not cut through the insulation of the cable strands. As a result you are left with open circuits and intermittent connections.Complete waste of time and money. I shall have to concede that I may be better off paying five times as much for something that works. Not worth even considering buying.

very neat when fitted
bought a pair of these, first one installed, no problem, onto a 25mm pattress, second however gave me some grief until I discovered the reason for the 'no server' message, it was the cheap extension cable I had installed under the floor, it worked fine when it had plugs each end but lopping one off to fit this wallplate showed it was poor quality, apart from different colourcoding the wires were untwisted and fewer strands, I think the strands were being cut rather than wedged into the box, I ended up inserting better quality tails into the box and using 3amp strip connectors to link the wires [they wouldnt solder either]. It ended up being a success though, definitely recommend these boxes for a neat job if youre wanting hard wired connections

RJ45 faceplate
The Cat5e Single Socket RJ45 Ethernet Network Face Plate is ok for what it is, but the problem I had with this is that it did not cut through the sleeving properly meaning it would not make proper contact with the wire and would not connect to the internet. I then seperated the sleeving a little bit so the wire was showing re punched it into the faceplate it then worked but would keeping losing the connection, so I now do not use this.

poor quality
As an experienced comms engineer I decide to " cable " my upstairs pc rather than use power adaptors to improve speed of connections. The IDC terminations are of poor quality and some took several attempts to connect , also the space between the connections is very narrow and difficult to terminate.Since installing the sockets I have had sound problems with the above pc , although my wireless laptop is ok .I have since replaced these with better quality ones .

Excellent item.
Item arrived as described. Very easy to install with a punch down tool. Has both A and B wiring diagrams attached to the back of the Ethernet socket. The faceplate has four small clips (top & bottom) so needs a little persuasion to go on a 32mm back plate. Plastic is robust for everyday use. Definitely worth the price and I will be buying more when I need them. Highly recommended item.

Rusty contacts ....
At first sight, the socket looked neat and tidy and it was relatively easy to wire up using a push down tool. On testing using a ETHERNET NETWORK LAN CAT5 CAT5E RJ45 RJ11 CABLE TESTER , I could not get one connection to work and I ended up buying a more expensive replacement which worked fine, first time. Before I binned the part, I took a look at the contacts and found that they were rusty. My recommendation is that you pay a little more and don't waste your time on this inferior Cat5e socket.
