Excellent performance - thank you Marantz, nice one!
Excellent budget amplifier, bought for my second system comprising: Humax Youview box, Pioneer 868 DVD player, Pure 701 DAB and Arcam rPac (streaming TeamRock from the PC). Speakers are a pair of 80's Tannoy Mercury and I use a Musicworks ReEntry mains lead.I bought a black PM5005 from my local dealer in Brighton a few months ago and found it to be just what I needed for my 11 x 13 foot bedroom. I bought this one because I gave the black one to a friend in need a few days ago and I wanted the same again - but I thought I'd go with silver this time: it's a very elegant looking and solidly made beast and a good aesthetic match for the DVD and the DAB below in the same rack, and I'm VERY pleased with the sound quality for such a modest outlay.Recommended, and I just might try it in my main system sometime soon.........

Great value and performance
I have been using a Denon AVR-1200G for many years and bought this one as a spare, due to its low price and good features. It works fine and is easy to use. Sounds great with Technics SL-1200 LTD turntable (with Pickering XV-15 and D150DJ stylus) and Pioneer DV-676A CD player, together with my Klipsch (for mid), Kef (for high) and Nuance (for mid/bass) speakers. The Nuance speakers are actually driven by a slave (Cary SLA Signature vacuum tube amplifier). The Source Direct button is interesting, as one could hear the unmodified sound. The loudness button is a bonus as I like rock and country songs; my old Denon does not have this. Instead of the original intention of using this as a spare, it has become my main amplifier. Very pleased with the investment. The delivery guy saw the price on the box and was amazed at its low price. I told him that it was indeed very cheap on amazon.com.uk.

Stunned
Another regret in life - I should have bought this years ago! I would have heard just so much more music in all that listening. Couldn't believe the difference as soon as I switched it on, and the music began to flow. I can see how the Marantze took its position as the best amplifier under £500 in some reviews. I paid a lot less than that for it, and it is worth every penny. My old cds are reborn with much greater subtlety and brilliance, and my experience of listening to music has been rejuvenated.I wasted 15 years with my last amplifier! Now buying music hand over fist just to hear what a piano, cello, violin, quartet and orchestra should sound like. Stunned by the sound this amplifier produces.

A welcome investment...
I had a Marantz amplifier many years ago and it was superb. A few decades later and I decided to go back to them. It turned out to be a great decision. The sound quality with this simple but brilliant amplifier and a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers is perfect. Music is now firmly placed back in our households weekends. The remote is a bit cumbersome (But welcome!) as it has obviously been designed to control a Marantz CD player as well as the amplifier - maybe they know I'm thinking about the CD player next...

Beer and reveiwers
I bought this to replace a failing midi system in my kitchen. Having had a few beers I guess I was over enthusiastic and reading reviews of cheap end CD players and amplifiers I found myself looking at this. After the inevitable waking up the next day and screaming "what have I done?" The beasts arrived, well packed, on time and easy to set up and use. I am running them on Mission 700 speakers with Mission 70s on the b channel and it sounds great on Bach, choral, electronic and blues. For a change I didn't feel I'd made a drunken mistake. I have a Denon amp/cd player in the lounge with JBL column speakers and to be frank I think the Maranz sounds better. But it does mean that I have had remove all the cooking utensils from the kitchen to improve the sound quality, but what the heck,I've lost a kitchen but gained a new auditory space....might upgrade the speakers and make the kitchen even less usable. Thank you reviewers, you probably saved me a cheap but embarrassing purchase.

Great sound. Remote control is lacking.
So this is a great little amp. Sounds good and looks nice too.The only thing that really bugs me is the lack of functionality on the remote. It seems that Marantz, when designing this remote, were more interested in having the remote control, control, a CD player, than controlling the actual functions on the amp, which is what the remote is supposed to be for.The remote can switch inputs, control volume, source direct, and sleep. That's it. And it has 50 buttons! There's no option to control bass and treble on the remote, no option to pan left and right, and no option to turn on and off the A & B speakers.Maybe it's a ploy to encourage people to buy a Marantz CD player, but I'm guessing it's laziness, and they just bundle the exact same remote with their CD players as well.Well that's the end of my rant. I'd still definitely recommend the amp, but be prepared to get up off of your arse and walk over and back to the amp any time you want to tweak anything. At least it'll keep you fit.

Nice amplifier with superb quality for an amp at this ...
Nice amplifier with superb quality for an amp at this price which was quite unexpected. Ideal for a small room. Effective phono input for moving magnet cartridge. Design could have been better with the front panel, it extends beyond the case behind it which look odd. loudness control for low volume use is very good. All in all I doubt that there is a better amp on the market that performs so well for the price. It is worth investing in good quality speakers to really hear just how good this amp is. Highly recommended.
