10000 Feet Long Range Visible Green Beam, Rechargeable Laser Pointer High Power for Astronomy Presentations

I bought this to use for sighting an optical device I was making. Several mirrors along a light path required alignment; the laser made sure everything was aligned before permanent mirror installation. I also tested the laser outside and it has incredible range! (unscrew the cap to use as a regular laser, otherwise you just get the star pattern in various configurations) I believe if lost in the wilderness, you could probably send an SOS signal for several miles. The only down side is the rechargeable battery life seems to only be about a half hour, if that.

Really bright and long distance. Works perfectly for pointing out stuff on construction sites. Decent battery life too. Definitely would buy again.

I would caution any buyer to not even *chance* an accidental contact with your own or anyone else's eyes. I suspect they would be damaged almost instantly. I can stand outside on a clear night and see this beam for at least a mile into the night sky. If there's any fog, it looks like a phaser weapon fired by the USS Enterprise at a Romulan ship. I bought it to be able to easily point out planets and stars when I'm instructing, and it works fantastic for that. I can also wake my neighbor up who's a half mile away. :-0 Be careful with this thing.

When I ordered a laser pointer, I expected a tiny green dot at a distance. Instead, the green dot this puts out is about four inches in diameter at a distance of ten feet. It is completely unsuitable as a laser pointer. The multiple green dots in the star cap are much smaller than the single dot without the cap. The star cap is difficult to remove. There are no instructions, so I had to go by the photo in the Amazon description above. It might make a nice, bright, green flashlight, but that's not what I bought it for.UPDATE: I returned the original laser pointer and Amazon sent me a new one. The new one has a sharp-focused light beam. It appears that the end with the light was damaged on the first one. I've used it a couple of times to make sure it works and it does. I'm a museum docent on the weekends and I can stand about 20 feet away from a large aerial photograph on the wall and point out various features. I'm satisfied with it. I haven't had it long enough to judge it's longevity. I changed my rating to four stars. I gave it four instead of five because 1) the quality control seemed to be lacking on the first one, and 2) there are no instructions—even a quick one or two sentences on the box would be nice. And what is the star cap for?

So far only been using as a locator for reflective road and stop signs.

HiPurchased it thinking it was a single light projecting from the laser, unfortunately it was one that had several rotating lights coming from it therefore I could not see the single line projecting as expecting. I couldn’t use it?Thanks
