Anxiety and Panic: How to reshape your anxious mind and brain (The Flag Series)

The best book I've read on how to tackle anxiety
I don't usually leave reviews but 'Anxiety and Panic' by Dr Harry Barry is without a doubt the best book I've ever read on how to tackle anxiety and panic disorder. Enlightening, clear and stacked with case studies, Dr Barry's book explains what causes anxiety and panic and exactly what we as individuals can do about it. Most of the book is dedicated to a CBT technique called the 'ABC', which is a method for identifying triggers, irrational beliefs and the impossible demands you're making of yourself. And throughout the book Dr Barry hammers home this message: the symptoms of anxiety are uncomfortable but not dangerous and you should not attempt to fight them. It's a radical but simply message and it's one that has already started to yield benefits for me. Buy it.

A good book.
I found the book very easy to read and helpful. I had no idea about the Amygdala which plays such an important role in behavioral responses which have been learned as a child and stored in this amazing part of the brain. It is often puzzling to understand how panic attacks come out of the blue and how things quickly escalate before rationale can set in. This is explained in the book by an author who is both sensible and compassionate having been a G.P. Sometimes I find case histories a little daunting as they can be auto suggestive however it does serve to illustrate that the same way of dealing with the problem can help even though the causes are different.

Not a replacement for proper therapy
I think that this book serves as a great reference guide and may help some fully get over anxiety. In my opinion, it is not a replacement for professional help. It is very well put together and makes for great reading and for me it is a helpful and science based reference to help me understand the condition better… but not a one stop shop.

This book really helped me. I hope it does the same for you.
I found this to be really helpful. It is based upon a cognitive therapy technique. It is simple and easy to follow, It does repeat itself over and over with similar scenarios but I feel this is quite deliberate and not just to bump up the word count. I read other books and explored other techniques but none where as simple and as effective as the ones described in this book. It literally has made my life a lot easier. Anxiety is a fact of life, everyone has it to some degree. This book has really helped me to move my experience of anxiety into a more normal and tolerable range. I hope it does the same for you.

Practical and easy to read
This is an excellent book on how to deal with anxiety and panic, and is a clear introduction for counsellors on the CBT techniques involved. Plenty of example case studies are used to illustrate the practical application of CBT and neuroscientific theories. The author has a wide and thorough theoretical grasp of all anxiety related conditions and shows us how to apply this in practical therapy.

A lot of reading in this book 😩
To be honest I haven’t started this book yet as I was very put off as there is so much reading in it.Me personally my attention span is quite short when trying to read due to my anxiety so it’s going to take me a very long time to read this.I feel that Dr Harry Barry should take into consideration that people who suffer with an anxiety disorder their concentration can be affected.

Probably the best book on panic disorder.
Read and digest this book as I did and it will end the attacks - you have to be brave though! I was suffering horrendous panic that seemed to be spiraling out of control (hospital visits and more). I first learned of Mr Barry via a great youtube video and bought this book at once. So very glad I did.

Why isn't this common knowledge?!
I wish this strategies were common knowlege for the medical community. His strategies gave me the ability to trivialize and destroy my anxiety. Other 'professionals' I spoke to were of no use. Check out his videos on Youtube!!

This book has changed my life for the better
After reading Barry McDonough's life changing book DARE, I became more interested in the theory behind anxiety and panic attacks. This book clearly and logically spells out how we as humans have the potential to experience anxiety and panic attacks and how we can reshape the pathways in order to create improved and healthy pathways so we may live free of negative sensations and panicky feelings. I wish I would have found this book a year ago! I now say every day that the feelings I experience are "uncomfortable but not dangerous", and that has helped my recovery in ways I cannot express with words.

One of the best book to understand anxiety
I discovered Dr. Harry Barry thank to the book Dare (amazing book and a must read for panic attacks).Harry Barry is amazing explainig the why, why we get panic, geversl anxiety, OVDt, and more important, what we need to do in order to reshape the brain, accepting the symptoms and having our life's back.To me is was particularly helpful the ABC technique and the MACS.Totally recommending this book, and all of his, I keep doing my exercises and reshaping my brain.
