Works Great With My Rode VideoMicro Microphone
The media could not be loaded. I bought this in order to be able to use my Rode VideoMicro with my Google Nexus 6P smartphone, however it could be used to connect other microphones to connect to your phone. The cable is coiled and black on one end and grey on the other. The black end goes into your microphone and the grey end goes into your smartphoneDespite being sold on Amazon as an iPhone accessory, this should work with most modern Android smartphones. Do your research though I as some older Android phones don't work with TRRS connections properly.I use the Open Camera app to record videos with external microphones. With my VideoMicro mic attached I was heard a significant improvement in my audio. There are many cheaper generic TRS to TRRS cables available online, but for the price of the Rode SC7 I think it's worthwhile buying one from a respectable brand.Check out my video to see me using the Rode SC7 with the Rode VideoMicro. Be sure to post a question if you are unsure of anything :)Kevin

If you want to plug your mic into you phone, then this is a cable you’ll need...or one of them...
I wanted to use my Rode shotgun mic with my iPhone. This plugs into the mic in place of the supplied TRS to TRS cable, then you need to use the TRRS to Lightning adaptor that comes with your iPhone. A tad Heath Robinson perhaps, but it works well enough.A couple of points to note. First, it’s a relative short, coiled cable. So you need to mount your mic relatively close to the device you’re plugging in to. Second, you are paying for the Rode name. Whilst £10 isn’t going to break the bank, and it’s well-enough made, it really should be closer to £5!

Awesome cable if you use a video micro or video mic go
It's a great cable for working with TRRS sockets in general so it'll work with apple and android phones. It has increased in price roughly £5 since i bought it so if you can wait till on discount or under £10 and it'll be worth while. The cable has a high quality build and it's coiled so it can be extended of bigger setups. Worth getting on sale.

A good solution for TRRS sockets
This cable from Rode works really well, I have tried it with both my Android smartphone and my MacBook Pro laptop and I had no issues. However, I have noticed that I would lose a sound output on my device due to the nature of the TRRS connector where the device would think it has both a microphone and a speaker connected.I have been looking for a cheaper option but I could not find a TRS to TRRS adapter that guarantees that it works with an iPhone since iPhone implements AHJ/CTIA standard so it is important to buy a right connector.Overall, in my opinion, it is a better solution to buy this additional cable for TRRS sockets as it is verified to work with iPhone and a one less failure point as opposed to adapter plus cable configuration.
