The first impression was good as you open the box. Everything is neatly packed. The parts all looked top quality, even the nuts and bolts were all labeled in neat little bags. As with all these kits all the documentation and software was online. This however is when things turn south. The Documentation for Assembly was hard to understand. They showed a picture of the sub-assembly going together, but that picture left you guessing exactly how each part fits together. Most of the time it was one picture shown at one angle which was not the correct angle for complete understanding of how each part fits within the assembly. I tried the video they have of the tank being built. This was even harder as they show a 3d image of the tank with parts suddenly appearing and then flying together. The image spins around to show were the parts go. But, you have to have a very fine eye for details as the images move very fast and the parts appear out of nowhere sometimes behind other parts making it very easy to miss them and you'll find yourself doing more rewinding than going forward. I used both the book and video because as the image is flying around you get to see parts at the correct angle so it gives you an idea of how those hard to understand parts go together. Now for the Software. First the book is flat wrong about were to go to get the software. This is the Pro version of Rasptank. But, the book has you going to the original version of Rasptank. You have to replace "rasptank" with "rasptankpro" in the book to get to the correct software. I have both rasptank and rasptankpro and it looks like they used the same manual for both but made modifications to the original manual for their new rasptankpro. Only it seems they missed some changes that will confuse their customers. After everything was done and all the software was installed exactly as the book showed how to do It I had problems right at the turn on. The book says you will get the LEDS turning on and off in a breathing effect showing that the webServer.py program ran correctly and the robot is ready to use. Mine however turned blue and started to get brighter then turned green. I tried the Web Controls anyway and ran into another problem. The servo connected to pin 1 as shown in the book controls the movement of the Whole robot arm Up and Down. Under Arm Control box everything worked as expected but the Up and Down buttons controlled the camera not the arm Up and Down. I did not see any camera control box in the Web Control Interface. There was a UltraSonic sensor box so I did try it to. All of a sudden my robot arm jumped up and down quickly. It scared me. I wasn't prepared for that. It seems that this control was for their Mars Rover car which I also have. The Ultrasonic sensor on the Mars Rover moves left to right painting a picture of objects near the rover. Now Tech Support. I wrote them to tell them all the problems I was having. Their first reply told me I was using the wrong software. That's how I found out about rasptankpro. All the results I have talked about was after I changed to rasptankpro. Tech Support it seems had a hard time understanding about my troubles. I explained as clearly as I know how to. No Arm UP and DOWN movement and no Breathing lights. I even included pictures of screens showing error messages and told them only the UltraSonic sensor moves the arm. Well, they responded with (were sorry that UltraSonic sensor does not meet your needs) and they will look into it. they also told me to swap two pins that had nothing to do with my problem. They never address my Breathing Light problem. I again rewrote the email again this time only stating Just two issues in exact language. They never respond. So, I downloaded their image file only to find it broke too. I checked the book for the GUI controls and found Up and Down was meant for the camera, but that still left the Arm Up and Down missing. The Hardware is excellent but nothing else is.

I'm very happy with this kit.I have experience working with Linux and Python and wanted to play around with a robotics platform. Looking around at various options I was surprised at the number of features/peripherals available for this kit.Assembly: it was fine. There were some steps that were confusing but once I looked at what the instructions were going for I figured out their intention, I think the one thing that could improve the instructions is an image and description of what parts will be used in the next step (as an example a picture of the acrylic pieces, screws, servos, etc...). I've written assembly documentation before and I can appreciate that it is challenging and everyone hates it no matter what you do but regardless I have a working robot sitting right next to me.Software: I opted for installing Ubuntu 64-bit server on my Pi 4 instead of Raspbian because Ubuntu supports ROS. One of my reservations when purchasing this was the software drivers, they were written for Raspbian and I didn't know if they would work for me but after going through 'setup.py' and cherry-picking the appropriate packages I ran through the demo applications in the 'server' directory and everything worked! I was anticipating that I would need to write an extensive amount of driver support but that's not the case. I can start working on my ROS nodes directly. I didn't play with the web interface though.My expectation when I bought this is that I would get a complete hardware kit and, hopefully, some software drivers. What I got was the hardware and all the software drivers working on an unsupported OS. I think this is a really good kit.

This robot is nice but may not be good for beginners. It requires the separate purchase and setup of a Raspberry Pi and some general command line knowledge. Overall this robot is sturdy, some of the other kits I have bought the parts are relatively brittle but this robot is made partially from metal, and the rest are made from plastic but the plastic parts were well cut and easy to remove. From an assembly point of view the instructions weren’t terrible but they could be a lot clearer when assembling the arm, there also seemed to be a couple of steps missing in the assembly. The pictures in some instances just added to the confusion. However, after the assembly is completed the robot work as intended. I look forward to developing some new code for this robot and expanding its capabilities. Buying the batteries was also a bit of a difficulty.

This is a decent robot kit, but the instructions can be hard to follow and the included batteries are a fire hazard. The batteries are loose lithium ion cells which should not be used outside of a battery pack with physical and electrical protection. The robot works fine with a USB battery bank which should be used instead for safety. The assembly instructions were a little hard to follow and could use improvement.

I am still working on this with my son. It's a great little project, however they dont send any directions and after finding them online they can be a little confusing at times but that's what helps with the challenge I guess.

Save your money unless they rewrite the directions and fix the outdated software. With the bad directions and now outdated and missing I2C software you won't like the hassle. I never got to assemble anything as I never got the software to even recognize the Servo Hat. On top of that I ordered it while waiting for the Pi 4 to be back in stock so now I just have a lightweight anchor.

My son says "Super good. Sometimes the server on the arm shakes, though."

My daughter ripped into this the afternoon of Christmas and worked on it all day! Looking for more to buy!

Für den Preis ist das Produkt ok. Einige Teile wie der Arm könnten besser konstruiert sein. Allerdings sind Akkus enthalten und wenn die Preise des Raspberry Pi wieder sinkt sogar günstig.
