Predator: If It Bleeds

If you always wondered about predator encounters throughout different time periods- this is an amazing read!!
I'm only halfway through but I'm telling you it's well worth the purchase. This is what hardcore (and casual) predheads have been waiting for, really, REALLY great anthology. Please support further endeavors of this kind, tell your friends or buy em' a copy, just dooo iiittt! My only gripe about any of the Predator novelizations (not JUST this one) is that they need way more Predator stuff in them (human centric, slowly building up to mysterious predator reveal), that being said 20th Century Fox has strict control over approved content/fluff, but I think the more Fandom appreciates stuff like this and self-polices but voting with their dollars, the more the universe can get fleshed out/expanded upon.Look at how many comics, fan-films, and great novels like this we're now seeing, just an early sign of more greatness to come!If you always wondered about predator encounters throughout different time periods, this is an amazing start that can hopefully lead to bigger and better things, more novels like this, an expanded universe (if, of course, still very high quality material and Predators are still kept mysterious, deadly to humans etc), perhaps adult animations similar to the Animatrix or Blade Runner 2049 prequel, TV series? (If done right) and of course more movies! The stories themselves are (so far) unique enough from one another, so many great authors contributing!Another thing I really enjoy is how since they're shorter stories it doesn't feel like it's such a chore to get to the good stuff (Yautja parts), as I mentioned regarding my previous gripe with all predator novels, it's definately better this time around thanks to the variety and brevity of material!)I believe that it was Bryan Thomas Schmidt's idea to assemble this all-star team of Sci-Fi writers (thank you Bryan!! Thank you 20th Century Fox for taking a chance!!) and I really hope we get more of these anthologies from both OLD/seasoned Yautja universe builders and some BRAND NEW/fresh meat for the next one? Please again don't hesitate to check this out if you has any reservations, I'm enjoying the hell out of it and do consider myself pretty hardcore into all things Predator (this does not mean I buy crap as there is definitely a lot of that out there as well) so I hope this helps a bit if you were on the fence, this will be an engaging quick read, completely captivating (of course some stories more than others) and such a pleasure of an adventure to go on!!

A collection of very good stories involving the favored hunter!!
I like the different perspectives of the stories herein. I especially liked the one where there was some interaction from the hunters point of view. This book, as well as all the written short stories, are recommended reading!!

Has Something for Everyone
I enjoyed this collection of stories. It was great seeing different stories or concepts with different author styles. Not all of them were great, but everyone will find some stories they like and some they don’t. Which ones those will be is up to you.For me personally, I absolutely loved the Viking one, the Cold War/Russia Prison one, and the Buffalo Soldiers. The Game World fight tournament was also pretty good too. I enjoyed almost all the rest. However I did not like the Hurricane Katrina one nor the one with the kids. Some of the stories do a great job giving us the Predator’s thoughts and perspective. Some stories also act as tie ins to other works. Devil Dogs is a prequel to the Rage War trilogy, Rematch is a sequel to Predator Turnabout book from years ago, and Drug War is a follow up to Predator 2 with main character Mike Harrigan. If you love Predator and wish you could’ve seen more fights across different timelines or scenarios like Vikings, Samurai, US Soldiers, Space colonies, Wild West/Civil War era, cage matches, etc, give this a read.

A book for Predator fans
I've read a lot of Predator books, and this is one of the best. The short story format works very well for this franchise, focusing on the actual human/Predator encounters - the good stuff - without getting bogged down in a full-length plot about the same old soldiers or colonial marine characters. Some of the stories are mediocre in both plot and writing quality, but most of are good enough to make up for a few duds. We get different time periods and settings, and variety of situations (Vikings, feudal Japan, children on a 1930s farm, American Civil War, Predator mates hunting together, an Old West sheriff, Vietnam War) plus we get to see a lot of the actual Predator, with several stories even giving us a good chunk of Predator perspective. That's hard to come by in Predator content and I was thrilled to see it. Skeld's Keep (the Vikings) is the shining stand-out, and Three Sparks (feudal Japan) and Gameworld (futuristic gladiatorial-type combat with a nice twist) are also great. The film studios could take a page out of this book, quite literally!

If only these stories could be adapted into short films!
The variety of short stories in this book is nothing short of amazing. You get stories set in future spaceships, during the civil war, and there's even one insanely creative story set in feudal Japan. Each one presents the Predator with the same sense of honor that it's known for from the films, but it doesn't hold back in terms of it's relentless desire to hunt the greatest prey. And in these short stories, sometimes it's us, and sometimes it's not. Sometimes the Predator is a ruthless villain, sometimes he's an unlikely ally.In short, you never know what kind of story you're going to get and the quality of the writing is excellent. With the exception of one story that mostly takes the perspective of a couple of kids, each one of the scenarios is brilliantly written and executed. You can easily visualize the gruesome details. As a fan of the Predator films (specifically 1,2, and AvP: Requiem) this more than satiated my need for cool Predator adventures. And to be honest, any one of these stories was much better than Predators, AvP, or The Predator.

Predator: If It bleeds

Pretty good, but have some complaints.
Not my favourite compared to "Bug Hunt"(the alien collection), mainly because there are more human wins than Predator victories(and Predators are among my favourite species of all time, I don't feel that humans should have the upper hand ever). A few standouts are great and continue stories of fan favourites(like Mike Harrigan, the hero of "Predator 2")and a pair of great stories in ancient times("Skelds Keep"by S.D Perry(who did the "Resident Evil"novels)is a great one that mixes vikings, predators and zombies and "Three Spark"tells a story in feudal Japan where the Predator is mistaken for an oni(or demon)by the populace and a veteran samurai is sent to hunt him down.)Not my favourite, but definitely some great stories in the pages.

Good to Read
Short Stories for the fans of Predator. Some stories are really good. Some were so-so. But it is a treat for Predator fans. I bought it without reading reviews and I do not regret buying this collection of short stories.
