Complete Guide to Making Wooden Clocks 2nd edition: Traditional, Shaker & Contemporary Designs

Helps to make clock

I am surprised this book hasn't gotten better reviews! I am a moderately experienced clock maker,and if you want some ideas there is a nice assortment of clock plans in this book. Purchasing clock plans is a huge expense, and this book has a large amount of very simple to very detailed projects. It does not show you how to use your woodshop tools or finish the clocks, these are plans, with photos. If you're wanting some good ideas for clocks to build in your woodshop, this is a great book.

If I had a chance to physically review this book in person before purchase, I would have passed on it. As stated, middle of the road as far as creativity and inspiration of designs offered. What really disappointed me was the quality of the models used. One clock requires many dados, sadly, only a few in the photo are even close to being square and flush. A modern clock features dowels that are out of round and other models show rough edges, minor splinters and paint brush marks. I'm no master woodworker by any means, a newbie at clock box making, and I'll build a few of the designs. As stated in another review, its a book of mostly basic plans without a lot of inspiration. The book however has inspired me to build the clocks better than the models pictured.

not real clocks, I thought I was getting a book on making real clock boxes, instead it is a book of fake clocks with electronic battery operated mechanism. NOT as the tittle suggest "complete guide to making wooden clocks".

I own a few clock books this is the best it gives some history on clocks and plans for basic styles even shows a step by step how to build one style

I made three clocks from this book for my daughters' Christmas presents. The book has good detailed plans. There were a few minor issues to figure out but if you are a wood worker they are easily solved. There are enough details to allow you to modify a design to suit your own tastes. Good book for a clock builder. These were my first clocks so if I can do it anyone can.

Useful for all, from beginner to the more experienced.

最初のアメリカでの置き時計・柱時計の歴史は、興味深く読めました。但し、肝心の木の時計作りの方は、デザイン・構成がちゃちで、２～３を除いてあまり参考に成りませんでした。初めて木で時計を作ってみたい人には良いかも知れません。本格的なものを期待している人にはちょっと進められません。
