Portable ESS Goodness
This portable DAC is super impressive and is a solid little unit. Very easy to use and gives you the choice of unbalanced 3.5mm or balanced 4.4mm. I have been running this little guy off my Sonim XP Pro with a pair of Audix A10 IEMs using the 3.5mm input and I could not be happier. Unit is super simple to use and is plug n play.Sound quality is fantastic with good separation and with a level of airiness I didnt know my IEMs could achieve. For the price you honestly can not go wrong. Highs are crisp and detailed, mids are forward but not overwhelming and bass response is fast with no muddiness which should be expect as this unit uses an ESS chip.Amplification is also great. I have been able to run everything from IEMS to my reference headphones (MB QUART QP400 300ohm) with no issues. My favorite thing about this unit is the volume buttons have lots of steps in the level of control you have, so its easy to find the perfect volume.During extended use it does get a tad warm and serves as a nice little hand warmer as some other reviews have mentioned but not hot to the point of it being a concern. If you are in the market for a portable DAC/Amp for headphones or IEMs this is a great option. I am looking forward to trying the DS2 next to see how it compares as that unit uses a different chip set.

Small but powerful!
Spectacular! Got them to use some iems on my phone & works great. Gets a little hot on the balanced output but won't burn you or anything like that. Just as an experiment i hooked up my hifiman ananda nanos was actually able to drive it decently which was surprising. Small form factor smaller than a lighter. Great sound no complaints.

Reasonable replacement for a Dragonfly
Things to like: 1) 4.4 compatibility; 2) Good sound; 3) Sturdy Build; 4) Attractive price; 5) USB-C compatibility/ability to choose cord length. The not so good: 1) Doesn't like to run off my phone (Pixel 8 Pro); 2) Not quite as powerful as my old Dragonfly Black.Overall, this is a good little unit, and powers a set of Fostex T20rps just fine (typical volume is full on the unit and 24% on the PC). The outgoing DAC/amp (Dragonfly Black) only required about 17% volume for similar output. Both have more than enough power for my work rig. The Fosi might draw a bit too much power for a mobile device, or it might just be a specific issue with my phone in particular. In any case, for a device to add some punch and clarity to a laptop or desktop machine, this isn't a bad choice.

Impressive & Portable DAC that's Crystal Clear
This DAC blew me away with its sound for its size. It was smaller than I expected, which made it perfect for portability. Its 220mW headphone amplifier is crazy, enough to power any headphones you could want and make them pop. There was no distortion as advertised; it made my IEMs sound great, and I could hear every detail in the songs. I have a small complaint about how the volume control works, as there isn't a visual top and bottom for the volume, and you have to guess, but the buttons are simple. I haven't had any issues with temperature running this at 32-bit, 384kHz for extended periods of time. Overall, this works perfectly for my use case, and I will definitely take this with me on trips. I don't have to sacrifice the sound I'm used to at home when I travel. I would definitely recommend this, as it's affordable, portable, and reliable.

Works as expected
An improvement for my guitar amp - overdriven sounds doesn't sound harsh anymore. Though, it gets hot after some time, ~2 hrs of continuous use.It is really easy to use, although was above my original budget, it did deliver quality of sound and build.

Sound is very good, when it works
This thing can produce music with good quality and fidelity, when it's in good working order. It works very well when connected to Windows computers and Samsung smartphones, but NOT so well with Google Pixel phones. When it is plugged in to Pixel 8 Pro phones, it would make very loud white noise that has the potential of damaging your hearing. But after a few times (close to 10 times of trying) plugin & unplug it, the loud white noise would magically go away and then you can enjoy your music safely. The same problem would happen again the next time when you try to use it with Pixel phone.I had contacted the manufacturer of this product but did not get any useful help. Changing of USB cables did no help either. It must be something between Google's Pixel and this Fosi Audio DS1 product that's not working well.

Great sound, portable, and well made
I purchased this DAC mainly because I upgraded my iPhone and no longer needed a lightning to 3.5mm adapter. The idea of a portable amp/DAC intrigued me for years, but i was waiting for the technology to improve. I’m glad I waited for this little gem. The performance for under $80 bucks is fantastic. It drives my 150ohm Drop 58x headset with ease on the low gain setting. I’ve hooked up a set of Westone IEMs as well, and the sound is full and powerful. The volume rocker on the unit lets you max out the source and control volume locally in smaller increments as well. I don’t have a balanced cable yet, but I can’t wait to try the 4.4mm output one day.One things to note is that it’s fairly heavy for how small it is. Feels very solid and expensive in hand though. I‘m hoping that translates into something super durable to take on the road with me. Overall, I’m very pleased!
