do you have to take off the whole screen door or can you replace the screen with the door still on?

The screen can be replaced with the door still attached. There is a black rubber cord in the channel surrounding the screen. Once you remove it the screen can be removed. The tool provided has a roller on the end. It is used to push the rubber cord back in the channel securing the new screen in place.
