1/2" Spindlemaster Tool

I bought this tool after reading “Learn to Turn” by Barry Gross. He kept saying it was much easier to use than a skew chisel. That may be true. I have been using tools with replaceable carbide inserts that do not “ride the tool bevel”. I thought this would be a good start to learning standard lathe chisels. The Spindlemaster cannot do as many things as a skew chisel. I cannot make a bead with it. It is very easy to gouge your work if you get anywhere near the tip of the tool. It’s main purpose in life seems to be to make rough surfaces smoother. In hindsight I think I would have been better off buying a skew chisel with oval sides. The Spindlemaster is not useless, but it has less uses than I expected.

Did not know what I was missing out on until I tried this tool. Easier to use than a spindle gouge with much better results. Sorby makes a great product here.

Holds its edge nicely and I am finding this is useful for many areas of turning.

The spindlemaster is one of the best tools I have purchased in a long time and you do not have to worry about ketches or dig ins. Not being a pro at wood turning it is a confidence builder. Also the price was right.

I am a novice at wood turning. I needed to make a spindle for a chair and with this tool it was very easy. I didn't have to worry about all the various gouges to use and try to keep them sharp. This tool was very easy to use and keep sharp. It has given me the confidence to turn more spindles. I highly recommend this tool for anyone who wants to make some spindles. I have tried cheaper tools in the past and struggled to make them work. This tool is top notch.
