I ran shielded cable not because I needed it but because I don't like fishing wires.To be fully effective one side should be a punch down with bonded ground but for home use that is a hassle and shielded connectors are likely good enough assuming your switch also has them. This part was the last link I needed since my existing wall plates were unshielded and broke the ground connection.It snapped in easily, holds firm and works fine.Can't comment on signal quality since in my case cables are short enough with no major noise sources that they worked fine ungrounded.If you have more than one electrical panel you may want to use these on only one side or use an unshielded patch cable on one side. I prefer the latter so I can tell by looking at the jack if it has a shielded or unshielded cable behind it.

I wasn't able to test at full Cat7 capability, but with cat6 hardware, I was still able to get over 900 Mbps both before and after I added this coupler to my ethernet connection.
