Undaunted // The Early Life of Josh McDowell

My wife and I enjoyed learning more about Josh's life and how God provided healing from some terrible childhood experiences. Sexual abuse is a horrible thing that many have experienced and I'm thankful for the reminder that healing is possible through a relationship with Jesus. I enjoyed how they went back and forth from current interviews with Josh to the dramatic portrayal of his early life. A great movie to watch as a family or with a class or support group. The only reason I gave four and not five stars is that the acting is not always phenomenal but the story makes up for it.

This was a well done film based on Mr. McDowell's early life. The acting was excellent for a film of its type; the only reason I gave it four stars was I felt more attention could have been paid to Mr. McDowell's quest for the truth. I read the book and found that there were scholarly fellows along McDowell's Europe journey instrumental in guiding him in his quest. While there is always a time limitation devoted to movies, I was disappointed in so many things being left out. Overall though, this was a wonderful and inspiring film on how God moves in the life of the skeptical.

This autobiography about one of America's foremost apologists is a must-see for mature family members. Josh's humble, personable, and transparent character quietly underscore the story line. How a man with such a bright mind and gentle character could have overcome an abusive childhood is a strong testament to the grace of God.Those familiar with Josh's giftedness in defending the faith may wish that he had incorporated a little more of his Evidence That Demands a Verdict into the narrative.

This movie jumped out at me as being a must have, but after I watched it, I promptly tucked it in my "don't watch again" stack. Don't get me wrong, I've been blessed by Josh McDowell and his testimony, but most of this movie is about his lost life. Only a few minutes at the end of the film address his saved life. The problem is that Josh McDowell's lost life is very disturbing, and this movie just didn't handle the facts carefully enough. Mr. McDowell was sexually abused as a child, and that part of his life in this film was shockingly disturbing. Even a child could tell what was going on it's so obvious, right down to the sound of his pants zipper being pulled down. It's really too much for us. The movie might have been worth it if as much attention was given to his saved life as to his lost life, but that's not how it went. If you want to see a good move about a lost man who got saved, I recommend "The Pistol:The Birth of a Legend" about Pete Mavorich. Be sure to get the inspirational version so that you can hear his testimony at the end.

I believe there are many hurting people today in this world. They are just like Josh McDowell experiencing unspeakable cruelty and don't know where to turn. There is hope. Josh searched for the truth with all his heart and the truth set him free. It also transformed the lives around him and allowed him in turn to touch the lives of millions. Although, I never experienced the horrible things Josh endured I have found the truth after diligently seeking and my life has never been the same. This is Josh's remarkable testimony on dvd.

Anyone with doubts about the existence of God should earnestly search for truth. Watching this movie is a start. I used to be agnostic. But I was determined to find truth and I found it by studying The Bible and Creationism. It takes more faith to be atheist and an evolutionist than to believe in the Creator of the universe. Compelling testimonies are undeniable of the power of God as well. It's not about religion. It's a relationship with our Heavenly Father, the only father in the world that is perfect whether we understand or not. And it's a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

This was a very interesting docudrama about the life of Josh McDowell--there were a some things that were slightly confusing but in a movie they can only fit in so much. There is more information included in the book than they had time to include in the movie--I appreciated the greater depth. It was a quick read, but fairly well written and in a pleasant style. Overall this was a movie that I would not be afraid to recommend.

I enjoyed this movie for 2 reasons. I grew up listening to Josh McDowell and I never knew the details of his childhood. Also, I loved the simplicity of the story. It's told like a narrative by Josh as he walks through the farm where he grew up. It really is a powerful story, especially if you know the kind of man Josh became through the healing power of God's forgiveness and love. Nothing like God's love to help us through our toughest trials. Josh McDowell is one of the powerful ministers of our time....so I was moved by this story.
