Self-centering is hit or miss
There is too much play in the guide block to keep the tool steady while drilling holes. In addition, the self-centering is very hit-or-miss. I recommend using the smallest guide size to establish a pilot hole, then drill-out to whatever diameter size you are using. My tool, when it arrived, looked somewhat beat up. All of the guide inserts were heavily scored internally although I have no other tool against which to compare to see if this is normal or not. In any event, there were also many scratches all over the anodized surfaces which was unsettling.I am now looking for a tool with improved tolerances to stop the wobble while drilling and which has more robust self-centering. The tool is usable but frustrating.

Quality
I actually really enjoy this thing. There are better ones on the market but you’re going to pay more for them. I am currently still on the hobby end of woodworking and building pieces for myself or family and this doweling jig has been a big help. I like that it comes with several different insert sizes as well.

Worked well for building cabinets
The media could not be loaded. This is a really good jig for working with dowel joinery. I used them for joining sides to base and top of cabinet and it worked well for this. I plan to use them for drawers and panel joining as well. For using on cabinets here are the steps I took:Steps for cabinet usage: 1. Mark both a small strip of material and a cabinet side and the top/bottom by lining them all up on a flat surface then marking them with a straight edge where you want dowels to go2. For cabinet side take small strip of material and clamp down to the cabinet side, align the drill jig to the marks on this small strip (jig has small white marks on base) and make sure drill bit goes into cabinet but not thru it3. Once those are all drilled drill the wholes on the top/bottom as well4. Repeat for remaining sides and then assembleSome of the pros of the tool: - Durable and great clamping strength - Holes for common dowel types - Marks make it easy to alignSome of the cons: - Tool comes pretty greased up so you have to be careful not to stain your wood - Instructions a bit hard to read/follow - Marks kind of hard to make outOverall this is a good dowel jig that I would buy again for projects like this one.

Building anything in wood, this jig makes it easier
I am working on some projects that will lead up to building my own house in a particular style. This jig has been useful in preparing my smaller projects (first was an outdoor cat house she can use during bad weather, the second is still under construction, but a new 6x6 shed) to be assembled with less trouble. This jig stays clamped onto the wood without slippage and drilling the hole to accept the dowel is easy enough. For me, this has been helping me with my current projects and should be useful when I get around to the house build.

Parallel movement is not accurate
This tool is looks cosmetic good, when star using hade couple issueFirst when you drilling on the center is OK, if try to adjust make off center drilling parallelism is not more accurate, also when you drilling there is not space for shaving to get out, filling in the guide causing size the drill bit, must modify little, also there is no spanner wrench for off center adjustments.also collars drill guides made with soft material, cuts when drilling
