Great home theatre in a box system
Honestly, it sounds great for a HTB system, and audio is a lot more clear, and bass is a lot more tight than a budget speaker system. By tight, I mean it sounds less like a big "thump" and more like an actual sound from a song or movie. Be prepared for a big subwoofer. 12 inches doesn't sound like a lot on paper, but the sub itself is just a bit smaller than a mini fridge, which was somewhat surprising. (Its about the size of 2-3 printers).Setup was easy, and although my first unit was defective, AVLGear has stellar customer support.Overall, if you find building your own system daunting, this is a pretty great boxed system, and I love it!(The monitor in the picture is a 27 inch monitor, for reference.)

This system will definitely surprise you!
I've had this system for a little over a year now so I thought it was enough time to give it a review. No problems after a year, everything is still working great. I would recommend this system to the average person that want's a great sounding surround sound system at a great price who isn't some audio file. This isn't for someone that pays thousand of dollars for speaker systems but for the average person this is going to blow you away. When I turn this thing up, the walls, doors and windows are all shaking. It's crazy how loud this system gets and it sounds great too! I strongly recommend this system.

DOA and I am supposed to pay?
My receiver did not work out of the box. I tried to make it work but it would only display "NG:LCR". I talked to support and they said I would need to send it in for repair and according to them:"Please note that you will be responsible for the shipping costs to get the unit to the service center however as a courtesy Onkyo will cover the return shipping costs."So after going to the UPS store and buying a big enough box for $25 i saw that it was going to be a minimum of $75 to ship back to them. So I need to pay $100 to fix their mistake?!? I might as well buy a new receiver from a better company and put this one in the trash where it belongs. Onkyo, you should not make your customers pay for your mistakes.

Cinema in the home
Purchased this to replace the same system I bought 10 years ago. The only reason I did this was the old system couldn't handle 4K video. The sound has been nothing less than fantastic. I have really been impressed with this equipment to pack a sonic KO to the ears when necessary while never having to ask "What did he just say" as Batman whisper-growls something important to the latest villain. The only complaint with this new one is the downsizing of the remote. Not as functional as the previous one. Guess it's about time I buy a universal remote.

Better than most...
Its been almost 7 months since I first bought this system.Overall it is amazing. I am a huge fan of good stereo equipment. When I was in highschool I had an amazing system that I bought from Radio Shack. That thing was super powerful and I had it for many years.Since then, I bought into the whole "Bose" fad and that fad faded for me. The bose system was something I would never use to listen to music on, and over time I stopped listening to music as much as i did.Now I bought this powerhouse of a system and I use it daily, for Movie/TV Surround and for music.I love the available features but have not been able to use the wireless part or Bluetooth part of the system as they do not work well in my setup. Why? I do not know. But I have bought an additional Chromecast device and added it externally to the system and now I can stream everything seamlessly.Overall, the sound is amazing. The price is on point.Features are great when they work.I love this system and will keep it for years to come, or as long as it lasts.I find that products today do not last as they once did.I would recommend this over the Under $2000 Bose systems. My only complaint is the fact that the built-in blutooth and wireless features are useless on the device I have, or with my particular setup.

Worked until It didn't
The Onkyo THX Certified HT-S9800THX system is good. I went with this unit because of reviews/price and the 7.1 channel offering. The system's sound is good but to be honest even with the many Speakers that complete this system less the atmos (purchase option), This system's speakers are bulky and require sturdy stands to compliment them. The front center speaker, for example, is unnecessarily too big, I can't fit it under or in front of my TV because of the 6 in. Height. The Receiver/Amp has multiple configurations from the latest 4K HDMI setup to RCA type old school. The Bass box is huge. Barring the few dynamics of this system, it does provide a nice home theater sound and many options for your listening pleasure. Note; My TV is 86 inches and not wall mounted which doesn't allow for side speakers on the stand and only 4 1/2 inch height clearance in front. All in all the Onkyo THX-certified performs as intended, but if you're in the market for less bulky speakers with a smaller footprint then you'll need something else.As of 1/28/19, I have used the system without calibrating the speakers with the included microphone device. Sounds good as is, But got to go through the steps to maximize the features. One of the reviewers indicated a ticking sound that I heard coming from the surround speakers. It does it only on some DVD's that I watched. I'm using the LG 4K Blueray UBK80.As of 10/1/21, Unfortunately, the Bluetooth feature has failed. I tried a few ways to get the Bluetooth to function, but I get no sound even though the screen displays connected and is reading the tracks from my Bluetooth device.Calling customer support didn't help. Take it to a repair facility I was told, you are out of warranty. Not recommended.

Awesome product at a reasonable price...
This is a beast of a system and I have run everything from 3D bluray, computer with HD chip, Satellite connected HDMI and it worked like a charm. My only complaint is that I had to sounds proof some areas due to vibration and such from the power from these speakers. My sconce lights were clanking because of the power of the speakers!
