Thank you for your interest in Builders Edge. This unit is 1 5/8" deep, it has locking positions at 3/4", 1", & 1 1/4".

Q: is the back scalloped for siding ?

No, it is a two piece unit. The first piece is the bulk of the unit with a nailing flange that sits flush against the house sheathing. The vinyl siding butts the block and the second part of the unit snaps on the first part to cover the vinyl siding.

Q: Can this be used to mount a single stud full motion tv wall mount? I would center the mounting block over the stud and attach the tv mount.

I am a general contractor. I would not recommend using this product for a TV mount. This is a hollow vinyl mounting block made for use with vinyl siding on the exterior of a home. Normally, TV mounts attach directly to the wall and don't need a mounting block. Unless you're talking about mounting a TV on the outside of a house (covered porch, etc.) over vinyl siding. In this case you could use this block as long as the TV mount is small enough for the flat surface of this block (unlikely). But you would have to fill the hollow part behind the block with a piece of 2x lumber and make sure that block is screwed into a stud, and also note that siding will need to be removed and reinstalled into the built-in J channel frame on this block in order to install the block into the plane of the siding correctly.
