Very good and not so good
Of the two I received in the package one did not work correctly. That is not so good. Since these are designed as emergency lights I hold them to a higher standard than just a regular light. It would charge ok and the night light worked, but when removed from the socket the emergency light failed to come on, and yes it was dark in the room. The other light worked very good. The red light came on when charging and went off when fully charged. The night light (light blue effect due to the blue plastic cover) would immediately come on and go off according to the amount of light it was exposed to and it is much brighter than the flat lights that are always lit. At least 5 times brighter, which makes it a lot safer in a dark hallway, stairway, etc. The emergency white lights lit up the entire hallway. Customer service was very good (they get 5 stars), they saved this review from getting a lower rating as they quickly replaced the bad light with just one e-mail through Amazon. The new light works as it should. What I would like to see is that these units also become available in a white color not just a medium gray even though it looks very nice (odds are that not many of us have gray outlets), and that they had some kind of UL label on them. Currently they do not, and after all they are plugged into my house for 24 hrs a day. They are also advertised as being able to be used outdoors. I would like them to specify if they mean on battery power only or can be plugged into an outside outlet. By the way, color had nothing to do with my star rating. At this point in time I think the overall design is really very good and I like them enough that if they function as advertised during a real power failure, then I intend to order more of them. Only time will tell. Here is how they work. Simply plug the unit into any standard 120V AC outlet. Turn the switch to 'Auto' mode and the red charging light will come on including the night light (1 LED bulb)if the area is dark enough. After about 8 hours the unit is fully charged and the red charging light will go off. If the power in the house should go off the 21 bright white LED lights will turn on and remain on for up to 8 hours. Or you can set only the night light to light by setting the switch to 'on' for up to 144 hours. I suggest you test it prior to that by simply removing it from the socket after it is fully charged in a dark room or if in a bright room cover up the light sensor. And (this is just my opinion) switch the unit to 'off' before placing it back in the socket and again turning it back to 'auto' mode. These units have a 2 prong plug without a ground, and are not polarized (both blades are the same size). The non polarized plug may or may not explain why there in no UL label. It can be turned and made to disappear into the body of the unit so that it can be used kind of like a flashlight. They also come with a flat plastic stand where both lights can be mounted and a nylon carrying case with a clear plastic face and a belt that is long enough that you could wear it around your neck for a hands free light. The LED bulbs are advertised to last over 100 thousand hours and the unit is advertised to cost about 28 cents per month to run.According to their web site they come with a 5 year warranty if purchased directly from them (see below). That is also not so good, if accurate. Since the warranty is also mentioned here with no reference to the part about their web site one would think it would also be good when purchased from Amazon, and I suspect it is. If this is a concern, then I suggest you check with them first before purchasing these units.CS-Power website.Warranty: 5 Years. (Purchase directly from our website only).

Good light with an annoying quirk (but see my Update)
These are pretty good lights which throw off quite a bright light when lit. However, as another reviewer already noted, they have an annoying design quirk. These are built with an optical sensor that senses the ambient light in the room. Supposedly, it will sense a lit room and prevent the small blue night light from coming on during the day or when the room is lit (it will also supposedly prevent the white, emergency LEDs from coming on in a daylight lit room). This doesn't work. Even in a brightly lit room during the day with the shades and curtains open, the night light still stays on. I found that shining a flashlight directly into the sensor would turn the night light off, but otherwise, it just stayed on all the time. Oh, well. No big deal. Of more concern is the sensor is quite good at detecting the white light from the emergency lights - especially if there is a reflective surface (like a wall, piece of furniture, cabinet or yourself) nearby. So when the bright, main LED lights come on, the sensor detects the light and shuts off the LEDs. Which of course causes the LEDs to light again and the cycle very rapidly continues. This results in a very annoying "strobe" effect. This can be tempered by careful placement of the unit so it doesn't get any reflected light from anything (like that close by wall or piece of furniture). But this is not practical in the real world because you have to plug it in to an available electrical outlet. I found the solution to be a piece of duct tape placed over the sensor. This will cause the night light to stay on all the time, but it stayed on all the time anyway. But it will prevent the sensor from picking up the illumination from the LEDs so they will stay on without interference from other close by surfaces. Also, as another reviewer noted, the blue night light is quite bright and we found it annoyingly so; it really lights up a room at night (I wouldn't recommend this unit for a bedroom if you like it dark). Again, the solution is that trusty roll of duct tape. You can partially or completely cover the night light to your brightness taste. This quirk with the ambient light sensor should have been found by whoever designed this light. It's too bad because this design flaw essentially renders the ambient light sensor useless. If not for this, I would have given this emergency light 5 stars.UPDATE: After having these 2 units plugged into the wall for the past week, the issue with the optical sensor seems to have resolved itself. In both units, the night light now goes out during the day and comes on at night. Also, likewise having left the units plugged in undisturbed for the past week seems to have resolved the "strobing" issue when the white emergency light comes on. One minor quirk remains: at dusk, when the blue night light will turn on, the white emergency light will "strobe" for perhaps a half minute or so - not a big deal, but a little distracting. So it appears that these units need to be plugged in for a few days before they reach full functionality. In view of the fact that these units now appear to be functioning correctly after leaving them plugged in for a week, I am upgrading my review to 5 stars.
