Ducky Shine 6 (Cherry MX Red) Keyboard
L**N
Extremely well built and great typing experience. NO USB PASSTHROUGH.
Switch type preference is different for everyone so before deciding on a keyboard I suggest going to a store and testing out different key switch types to figure out your own preference. I've been typing on MX Brown keys for about two years and even though it's only been a very short amount of time I think I prefer MX Red switches. This is the first Ducky keyboard I've ever owned, my previous mechanical keyboards were from Logitech and Corsair and I've got to say the quality on the Ducky is much better than the previous two brands. It lacks the huge brand recognition and the "gamer" marketing but it doesn't need any of it. The board quality is top notch and doesn't have any of the annoying "gamer" fonts. It comes with RGB but if you want a sleek office use keyboard this would also work perfectly, after setting it to static lighting. Don't get MX Blue switches for work though unless you want to be hated by everyone.Key caps are double-shot PBT and boy can you feel the quality. The is surprisingly very little key wobble, except for maybe the space bar but it's still better than my old Logitech keyboard. Board flex is also non-existent because of the steel plate used for rigidity. It has a detachable USB cable, though sadly not type-c, but this is because the Shine 6 came out in 2016. RGB is nice but not as bright as I thought they would be even running in USB3 mode, but they do illuminate the keyboard well enough without being obnoxious. The bottom row is non-standard but is pretty easy to get used to. Customization of the keys can be done via hardware or software but my advice is to not lose the manual. The only real con I have is the price, with NCIX dead there really aren't that many places to buy Ducky keyboards on sale. The quality justifies the pricing but the prices of these keyboards have been climbing for the last few years. I suggest looking for a sale.TL;DRPros- Quality key caps- Rigid steel plate = no flex- Detachable USB cable- Very little key wobble- Extensive software customization options- Extensive customization without software required- Per key RGBCons- Pricey- Non-standard bottom row- Customization with or without the manual may be too much for some people- RGB LEDs are a bit dimmer than expected- Not USB type-c- There is no USB passthrough/ports other than the single micro-b connection
