Made new microphone shock mount elastic rings easily
This review is based on the 1/8" shock cord. Most professional microphones sit in a "shockmount," which is a device that allows the microphone to be suspended on a pair of elastic bands. This keeps vibrations from the floor from entering the mic and being recorded along with the music. My original bands had given up the ghost, and my microphones sagged, touching the metal frames. Since I'm not even sure what brand of shockmount I have, there was some risk in ordering replacement elastic designed for perhaps another brand that looked similar, but ultimately wouldn't fit. Too long, and it's useless. Too short and it either won't fit, or it'll be too tight thereby transmitting vibrations and defeating the entire purpose of the shockmount. So I decided to give this cord a try. I had two concerns. First, that it might not fit into the small slots where the prior (and thinner) elastic cords had gone. Second I wanted to be able to join the ends neatly. As for the first concern, it's no issue. Yes, the cord needs to be stretched slightly, but it fits comfortably. The second issue turned out to be a bit more complicated. I initially tried overlapping about an inch of the two ends of the cord and then holding them together with 2:1 heat shrink tubing of the type designed for wires. This didn't really work, though if I had used the kind with glue on the inside and perhaps 3:1 shrink ratio, it would probably have done well. Note that you need a snug fit before you shrink, and that requires stretching one end of the cord so you can get the other one through. Next I tried button hole thread to lash together an overlapping inch of cord. This worked fine, and had I finished with shrink tube would have looked very nice. But it was a fair bit of work. Finally I tried 10-12 gauge wire connectors, the kind you crimp. This worked nearly instantly. Yeah, it looks a little kludgey, but I'm not that concerned about the looks. If you do this too, here are a couple things to keep in mind. My old elastics were approximately 20" long (full circumference of the ring of elastic). I ended up using 16.5" of shock cord, and where I had a 1" overlap (as with the thread/heat shrink tube) I cut 18.5" of cord. This is about 17% shorter than the old cord. Basically, you want just enough spring to keep your mics nicely suspended. But don't make them too tight, or you will risk transmitting vibrations, nullifying the entire point of this.Anyway, I can use my microphones again and I'm very happy. And I've got enough shock cord left to make another set of these elastics, so it's way more economical than buying pre-made shock mount elastics.

1/4” bungee cord
Better than expected. Appears to be of high quality. I used it for on an airplane canopy cover.
