I had high hopes when I installed this at first. If feels like it is a very tough material. It has a little bit of a sticky back that I thought would really come in handy to keep it stuck down and flat.Early on it didn't want to give up the memory of being rolled up and the center had a bubble that I kept smoothing out but kept coming back it just wouldn't stay flat.after a few days I decided I didn't care for this the way that it kept pulling up in the center so I took every thing off the desk and went to re set it up and discovered that the black color in places had pulled away from the plastic and was stuck to my desk. I haven't been able to get the black off my desk not with windex or desk cleaner.You can see where the things on my desk sat because the paint on the mat then transferred to the desk surface.

I was looking for a material to cover the work surface of my desktop. This product did just the trick. I definitely would recommend it.It's a very thin plastic but it feels satisfyingly hard when writing on it or otherwise using my desktop. It has a fine rough texture on the top side, but that does not negatively impact writing on paper on this surface. It works well. I never thought I had issues using an optical mouse on my original desktop. However, this desk pad makes and excellent mousing surface. Using the mouse feels (physically and on screen) the most natural and responsive it ever has.The back surface of the desk pad feels tacky, but it is not actually sticky or adhesive. It effectively keeps the pad from slipping. The pad comes rolled in a tube. After about a month, the pad still has a little bit of curvature in it from being rolled at either end. If you don't care about your desktop, I would recommend a thin double-sided tape to keep the edges of the pad down. Clean the surface of the desk before putting the pad down, as small particles between the pad and the desktop can be felt through it. Cleaning the top of the pad itself is very easy, with a dry cloth, paper towel, or with a little bit of water or mild cleaning solution.The pad does warp a little when hot, such as placing a laptop on it. The buckling isn't really noticeable, as it's confined to the area under the laptop. However, when I remove the laptop and the pad cools some, I can easily smooth it out again. The amount of heat produced by the laptop does not appear to permanently have an adverse effect on the pad.The front edge of my desk has a curvature to it. I was able to cut the pad to match that curvature. It cuts fairly easily with a scissors, but is a little difficult to cut an exact curve. I stenciled the arc onto the back side of the pad with a pencil first as a guide for cutting. Once in place on the desk, I was able to clean up some uneven areas with a hobby knife.

These desk pads are thin. I purchased two. One is under my keyboard and mouse as well as a notebook I write in. The other is used under my tutoring students when they are doing their homework. I have indents on the desk pad where students have written and it is broken off in the corner of the pad the students use. Additionally, they put some sort of adhesive on the back of the pad so that it sticks to the desk. This is obnoxious because it frequently comes up and makes a noise any time my students lift their arm off the desk. The problem is that it arrives in a tube which makes the pad never want to lay down, thus the lifting. The pad under my keyboard works fine. The pad under my students is not fine.

This item seems a little pricey for what it is, but I do have to admit that I really like it. My workstation is setup on a Lifetime table and I like the texture of this mat better than the texture of the table that I work at. Also, the mat visually accentuates my work area in a way that makes it look more professional. (Okay, I'm going to update my review...allegedly this mat can tolerate heat up to 190F...I don't know how hot my lunch was today, but it did not seem that hot. Where the paper plate was sitting is not all wrinkled up. Once this happens it can never be straightened out again. Given how expensive this thin piece of plastic was I can honestly say that I'm now very disappointed...minus two stars off of my original five star review.)
