Great for my use!
I love the sturdy build quality, rechargeable battery, and included diagram. I found the Geiger Counter to be easy to operate. I used it during my radioactive iodine treatment for thyroid cancer. I used the data to make a graph of how radioactive I was over time. I loved the price & quality compared to other Geiger Counters. The data I got was in line with my expectations give my dose of RAI (I-131), so I felt it was accurate enough for my nerdy purposes. While I don't recommend thyroid cancer, I do recommend this Geiger counter!

Worked great right out of the box
So far, I love my new device. It worked exactly as I expected it to. I had bought a much more expensive ($400) meter from REED (poor and faulty device, inaccurate, returned). This GQ CM300 E Plus seems to work great and was not a disappointment, like the other brand. This clicks for CPM and shows a large easy to read count. Seems accurate. The numbers adjust quickly and it is easy to measure radiation. Move it around and it will change values from like 18 cpm to 38 cpm, so it seems like it is really working. Also, it seems to give consistent readings based on where it is aimed. The thing hanging on the side is a wrist strap. It has a rechargeable battery inside, and it came charged at 96% out of the box. It is portable, you do not have to plug it in to use it (battery must be charged up). I will keep it safe from bashing in my bag. It does not look like it would be rugged for bashing in a bag. Probably better to put in a little box to carry it inside a bag. I did not try any features. Just turned it on and took CPM readings immediately. I did not read the directions. Easy to use. I am using it to detect CPM for various old glass objects in my house and my rock collection.

Workhorse - this little device is packing a value punch
I got this, sort of for all the wrong reasons. I was worried about the potential of exposure due to a out of country vacation. Well, you can imagine how much I used/looked at this on vacation - vanishingly little. However, when I did - it was ready to rock and roll. In fact, I turned it on and put in my backpack...only, I forgot about it for the following fours days. It was still taking readings and was running like a champ.Once I got back home, I decided to 'test' it and grab'ed some materials that I knew to be a bit hotter than background... and it reg'ed these just fine. This is a well built (based on the fact the unit lasted so long on a single charge ) piece of equipment. Recommend highly. As for analytical accuracy, that I don't know - as I don't have the necessary testing instrumentation; however, it 'feels' right, if that makes sense.

Great counter, but worried about the buttons
Overall it's a great Geiger counter and is easy to use. It works great on the uranium glass I tested it with and got it for. My only concern is with the "sticker" that makes up the front label. On mine, it seems like there's one of those protective plastic sheets over the front to peel off, but it's actually the sticker itself with the labels on it. It also has some bubbles/ripples that worries me as it, along with the buttons, may peel off as the device ages. One note for anyone who purchases one of these: the tube that is used to actually detect the radiation particles is on the bottom when holding it the right way to read it. So you basically need to measure things with the screen "upside down" (turned 180 degrees away, not upside down like pointing towards the ground), or by putting what you're measuring/detecting between yourself and the counter.

A great starter level Geiger Counter; fun to bring to antique stores.
Purchased this because I'm an ex-Physicist with a love of metrology. After doing a lot of research, I chose this model as an entry-level Geiger Counter because I have no practical use for it, but I'm discerning enough to want something that actually works well.I'm very happy with the counter itself: it's easy to use, has many modes of data presentation, and has a very long battery life.I cannot, however, evaluate the software, as I typically am in MacOS and the software is not compatible. I did play with the USB serial interface a bit, but it is tough to use meaningfully from a manual serial terminal app. I would love to see at least a basic offering which allows logging counts—I can always import them into one of my many data analysis apps to look at the data later.

Very pleased with the GMC-300
I just got this Geiger Counter today so these are my initial impressions. The unit was easy enough to use after punching through the menu to set correct date/time since they recommended you do that first. Unit was already correct except for time.I checked out a uranium ore sample, uranium glass, and an old radium dial clock. It seems sensitive and proportional in readings but with out a true calibration source, I can't attest to the accuracy. It is sensitive to background radiation also.As far as the software goes, it is quite simple and useful enough for me. The unit includes a disc but I downloaded the software from the manufacturer's website. I then got a serial port error when I connected and tried to import today's data from my unit. I checked the website and found and downloaded the USB port driver. When I again tried to import I got an error and found that there is a select button for comm 1 through 6 on the computer screen display. I started trying other settings and got it to upload my data on comm 3.So I had to dig around a little to set things up and then to run the software but I'm only talking about less than 5 minutes in each case.I'm very pleased that I bought this unit.
