Did the job! Woody has relocated.
TL;DR: Woodpeckers are really really loud and love metal that reverberates. These spikes keep the birds away very nicely.Apparently woodpeckers LOVE to peck on things that echo or reverberate a certain way? I haven't done any research so I'm just going off this one and an few others I've heard in the neighborhood. I always wondered why it always sounds like someone is installing rivets in the distance early in the morning in my quiet mountain-town. The first time I heard that fat little bird "peck" on my metal stovepipe on my roof, I sprang up and ran outside. I thought someone was using an air chisel on it! It echoed down through the chimney and I have no insert so it's just an open fireplace. It's a really loud rapid-fire racket. It's not a peck-peck-peck sound. It's like mini-machine gun fire! Anyway, this is a bad way to wake up and he loved to do it early in the morning. Most of the time if I ran out and hurled a pinecone at him he'd fly away and not come back until the next day. I wanted to use more-- lethal means but my girlfriend talked me out of it. Instead, I bought a few packs of these spikes. As soon as I took them out of the package I could see why they are basically harmless to birds. A bird would have to intentionally impale itself on these. The ends are blunt so they aren't really spikes. They are very flexible but just sturdy enough to make it impossible for even a small bird to land on them. Very likely no bird would even bother trying to land with those in the way. It was a little tough getting them attached. You can't really anchor the base own and then install the spikes because they poke through from beneath. I decided to use JB Weld to glue them down as the surface of the stovepipe cap is curved. I arranged them in a kind of sloppy radial array and tried to space them out evenly, covering the entire surface. It worked perfectly. I haven't heard little Woody's rapid-fire pecking since. I'm sure he's off waking someone else up with his love of making noise.

So far no birds nesting in wrong place.
So far so good. Seems to be working!

Sort of work, but some birds are determined.
Put these up on top of the four pillars of our front porch. Got nests every year. Three of the pillars are bird free, but one used the spikes as a support structure, which others have reported. Well made, just not a solid solution.

Assembly
Be very careful handling these. Edges very sharp as most sheet metal is. Big problems from punched holes for spikes. Half the holes aren’t punched all the way through, leaving very sharp tangs on the holes. Fortunately, I have a bench grinder and ground off the sharp edges. I did have some similar ones before to put in my rv shelter. Got rid of the Doves, but the little birds just perched on the spikes. They should work ok for big birds once I install them.

Bye Bye Birdies
Every year the birds return to the newest wreath to build a nest and start a family. After many ruined wreaths and yearly door cleanings, something had to be done. I saw this product and it definitely fit the bill. The birds returned this year and built a nest toward the top. I removed it as there no eggs in yet, the birds returned and saw the spikes and stared in confusion, with their construction material to add to it. Used zip ties to attach at top and flexibility allowed it to bend and fit in middle. They left and haven’t been back in days. The kids did learn about the birds and the bees (had a bee hive in the backyard) when they were younger right at the front door LOL. They would climb up on the ladder and watch the birds and when they were being fed. They even saw the birds first fights.Ecstatic I found this product.

Birds! Quit pooping on my car!!
These saved my car's paintwork and my sanity. They are a tad sharp and you have to assemble them, though.

Metal parts in a cheap, shabby plastic bag!!!
The spikes are separately grouped (8/group) held together by flimsy rubber bands. The bag mine came in had a tear in it (red flag)! I should have counted everything before beginning to install the spikes on the strips…they can not be removed!!! Other than this gripe, the product is okay.
