New 6k Mod is a huge step up from old 4k mod; make sure you seal the cable door properly
Before I bought this I had the Insta360 One R with the 1" and the original 4k module and its accompanied me around the world. I used the One R for dive photos and Timelapse's and intended to add this to my repertoire. The One R series stands apart from the GoPro alternatives by allowing you to swap out the lens. That said they didn't release anything better than the original 1" mod for my use in the original run. The upgraded models longer battery life; vastly improved standard 4k mod and improved case made for a tempting purchase so with an upcoming trip I preordered one.Shortly after receiving it I took it to the Maldives for a fortnight. It did a good job as a video camera under water; and I took a few sunset and weather Timelapse's along the way. The new 4k camera mod delivers a good picture and video even at night. Not having the lens protruding as the 1" does is useful when I mount the camera on my main dive camera. The downside being I can't use a polarising filter with it.In the bright sun I found that recording high resolution video caused the camera to overheat whilst in 35C+ temperatures. The new case is a big step up from the old clamshell design; opening from the side via a button makes it much easier to open and close. Though the new case also resulted in the early death of my camera. Through my own error I managed to kill it on my third dive after not shutting the cable / charging door properly. The lesson being don't try and shut it whilst the camera is in the case.Sadly you can't use the new lens with the old camera mod. The control software and the app on your phone for quickly extracting video are unchanged. I find setting the camera up with the App is much easier than doing it on the small screen on the RS. Its easy to setup Timelapse's in the app; and if you want to run all night you can plug a power bank into the camera and leave it running. Once setup it will repeat the last setup every time you use it; so pressing the red record button does its job. This is great when im using it attached to my dive camera setup; I can configure the ISO limits and resolution and press the button on the camera on / off as required. You can also pull the micro sd card and just transfer video straight onto your tablet or computer to edit the video or photos.
