Loving It! Good Book!
I love this book. My son is 4th grader and it is helping him with his critical thinking, learning to be a close reader, reading comprehension, vocabulary and patience all at once. I give him about a good 40 minutes a week to work on a section of his choice and he is getting about 50 to 60% of the stuff on his own. But the stuff he doe to get straight off, we work on strategies and context stuff. I like seeing him progress and his confidence build. The best part about this book is it teaches patience in working to locate and think about answers. The book is structured well so he can easily thumb through and find a page to work on. Book isn’t to multiple pages of reading. It’s read one page, then answer about 7 questions on the nest page. It contains 7 chapters , 7 lessons per, with a Chapter Review Test at end of each. The book it totally appropriate for a 4th or 5th grader. It doesn’t take a whole lot of explaining to understand how to use effectively. Also the answers are explained in back of book.

Science
We home schooled for 5th grade to see if we could help the kids catch up to their level . Teachers have reported our 11 year old is able to work independently and follow along with reading while in science class something she struggled with before home school. These are great as they have passages to read and math problems to work out solutions. It asks many questions about what the kids think along with a correct answer guide.

Great for Lesson Starters
We use this for our 3rd and 5th-grade homeschool science curriculum. However, this book is NOT in-depth. They read one page on the topic and the next page asks them questions about the topic that only requires them to look for the answers in the text they just read. I have to supplement a lot with videos and printables for them to actually learn the concepts. The science books are great for topic starters but know that you'll need to supplement to reinforce the concept. A plus: the book does have a chapter review. Again, it is not in-depth. It only asks 1-2 questions from each lesson. I DO recommend Spectrum's Geography, Writing, and Language Arts book. We also use them and those particular books are really great. For Language Arts, I supplement with worksheets and IXL review. The others are fantastic and require no additional supplements. My suggestion:This science book + printable(s) + video(s) + small project. Otherwise, they won't be familiar enough with the topic covered on just one page unless. I like to make sure they fully grasp the topic they are learning about and retain that information.

Great Science book for my 5th grader
So many exercises and very descriptive. My 5th grader make sure that she does atleast a chapter everyday. It has lots of variety on subjects. The clarity of instructions and the thoughtful layout of the workbook make it easy for my child to navigate through the lessons independently. I liked the inclusion of progress-tracking tools within the workbook.

Spectrum is the way to go!
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! This book is very in depth. Provides articles, questions, reviews and a final test at the end. My son is homeschooling and doing an online curriculum but I felt the science was lacking and wanted something more. This book is it! 2nd Spectrum book I have ordered and both are phenomenal. Next year I'm going to start his school year with more of these books. Very impressed.
