This fruit crusher works quite well. It arrived on time and in good packaging. The crusher is sturdily made. The knives are stainless steel and the drums between them are corrugated polymer. I was hoping for metal, but these seem to do the job well so far. The gears are also polymer but appear sturdy enough. The only real complaint I have is that of the crank wheel. As well as the rest of this crusher is built, this is the weak link. I mistakenly thought this was a metal flywheel with a crank but it is injection molded plastic about 1/8 inch thick. Admittedly I'm not sure where I got that idea since I went back through the description and it's not in there. I didn't even attach it to the crusher as I am crushing old world pears for cider (perry). They are delicious but very tough. I grew up on a farm so I'm no stranger to working on machinery. I went to our local Orscheln Farm store and bought a 16 inch diameter metal v-belt pulley and wrapped a piece of 3/8 inch log chain around it to make a flywheel (total cost around $50). I used the included crank and secured it all to the 5/8 inch shaft on the crusher and it works just fine (also would be easy to attach an electric motor at this point). Fruit much bigger than a baseball tries to just bounce around in the hopper so it takes a little practice to get the right speed and an occasional reverse turn helps keep fruit from getting stuck in the grooves between the knives. Small fruit, or cutting fruit into smaller pieces works just fine. Have a wooden or plastic spoon handy as well to help move fruit in the hopper while the knives are turning.Overall I am satisfied with this purchase except for the crank wheel which I fixed. I think with basic cleaning and maintenance this crusher should last a long time. So far I have run about 200lbs of pears through it without a problem.

Bought this to grind apples for apple cider unfortunately it does not work with whole apples you have to cut them up and then it works OK

We are very happy with the crusher.It is light enough for portability and tough enough to grind the apples.
