Great Thermometer
A friend of mine cooks the best steaks I've ever had (no kidding). It is a simple operation, and the secrets are no secrets: the best ingredients (in his case, Lobels in NYC), simple seasoning, the right pans, and the right thermometer. I know everyone has their own opinion about great steaks - and they are all valid - but this is my experience. He left the country for a new job and we were left without my steak source. So I followed his steps, got the same ingredients and bought this thermometer. The results were outstanding. Who needs him!??The thermometer is rugged, accurate and very easy to use. It stands alone or sticks, with its magnet, to any metal surface near the stove, and provides a clear read-out. Just very simple, well-designed, and easy to use. No opening the oven door to check on the progress, just a steady accurate cooking experience. (I am told that one of the other secrets to a great steak is not to mess with it, so not having to open the oven door is a real plus.)Haven't tried it with anything else yet, but it is so easy to use and so accurate that I would expect great results with roasts, chicken, etc. etc. Very happy with this simple product.

You'll need this thermometer and timer even if your oven has a probe
Last Thanksgiving, I thought I was all set to reheat my spiral sliced (precooked) ham in my Wolf duel fuel oven which has an oven probe. But I soon discovered that the probe only goes down to 160ºF (Cooks Illustrated and ThermoWorks recommends heating the ham to an internal temperature of 140º). I had to watch the probe temperature instead of conveniently setting the temperature I wanted and cooking the rest of the meal while I waited for an alarm to sound. So I ordered this ThermoWorks Cooking Thermometer and Timer that night and got it the Monday after Thanksgiving! This thermometer goes down to 32ºF and up to 392ºF (0ºC to 200ºC). The thermometer and timer controls are very intuitive to use. The nice thing about this thermometer is that I can leave the probe in the meat as it rests and watch the internal temperature. But the thermometer alarm only monitors the temperature while things are heating up: I can't set it to watch the temperature as the temperature of something cools. The thermometer/timer has two magnets on the back so you can stick it on a metal surface (if it will take a magnet). But the thermometer/timer can also be placed on the counter and the display viewing angle adjusted. There is a slide switch on the back to change the display from ºC to ºF and the display changes even with the thermometer turned on. And it only uses one AAA size battery (it seems happy with my rechargeable Sanyo Eneloop). The timer goes up to 23 hours and 59 minutes. I like that the controls are not slow when I set the temperature or timer, something I've seen with my other timers. You know, you mash a button and the timer takes a long time to count up to the time you want.I got the improved model (B) versus the A version that Cooks Illustrated tested. Among the improvements is a heat and water proof plastic sleeve that covers the wire as it enters the probe to help keep water out of the probe. It is important to keep water out of the probe when cleaning otherwise it will short out the probe. I ordered a Replacement Probe for TW362B Oven Thermometer along with my cooking thermometer and it was not the improved version (no plastic sleeve). The probe wire is about 45" long so it seems long enough so far for me to place the thermometer in a convenient place on my counter while the probe is in the oven. The Thermometer and Timer is made in China.PS: This is from the thermoworks.com web site about the probe:Probe cables will withstand 500 F for short term use to allow for oven browning (so the probe can be put into a oven that is hotter than what the thermometer can read). The probe itself is rated to 392 F. The probe cable employs high temperature wires insulated with PTFE and protected by a stainless steel overbraid. The cable diameter is small to allow it to be closed in an oven door without creating a heat leak. The probe assembly is not completely waterproof and SHOULD NOT BE IMMERSED IN WATER. The tip of the probe tube can be run under a tap or cleaned with a damp rag. (Keep the cable dry.) Keep the probe cable away from heating elements, flames, coals, grill or oven racks - all of which can reach temperature far higher than 500 F. (There are no food-safe, affordable wire technologies that will withstand higher temperatures.) Avoid repeated kinking or twisting the probe cable which can break wires over time.PROS:It is inexpensive and accurate.Gives you both a thermometer and timer for your cooking needs.Pretty good range of cooking and food prep temperatures. The controls are intuitive. It only needs one easy to buy AAA size battery.CONS:I would be nice if I could set the thermometer alarm to watch the temperature as something is cooling.

NEVER worked!
I read all the low reviews before I buy anything on Amazon and typically the comments are one time issues or people who sound as if they would be dissatisfied by anything. Usually, as long as an item has more positive than negative reviews, I am comfortable with buying something and have rarely been disappointed. That fact and the Cook's Illustrated endorsement made me purchase this despite some plausible negative reviews. I STRENUOUSLY WARN YOU NOT TO FALL INTO THE SAME TRAP.Simply put, this thing is a VERY expensive digital timer. The temperature probe broke on the first use. Despite the multple warnings from others about making sure the cord doesn't come in contact with hot metal surfaces in your oven, I thought that would be easy. Not so. The damn thing is impossible to use without having it touch metal somewhere. Within the first three minutes of use, it registered HI and the probe was broken. It NEVER gunctioned again. Even after letting it cool completely, when it is reinserted it just registers HI. I get that it's my fault for ketting the cord touch a metal surface but it's practically impossible to avoid that in a hot oven. If it's that easy to break, it need to be redesigned. It would seem to be a simple fix to coat the entire probe wire with heat resistant silicone to insulate it, but the manufacturer doesn't bother.Save your money and buy a Thermoworks Thermapen instant read thermometer. They are expensive, but they work very reliably and truly instantly. Yes, you'll have to pull your food out to check the temp, but thats a small inconvenience for something that actually works.

Lowered rating: not good for grill
This works just great. You can put it in even a thin salmon filet. No more overdone steaks or dry fish. What more needs to be said?I originally rated this 5 stars. Well, one month later and more needs to be said. When I opened the grill cover one day a quick flareup occurred which charred the thermometer cable and destroyed it for use instantly. The package does say to avoid touching direct flame, but really, how can you grill without an occasional flareup? To their credit, the company sent me a new cable gratis and suggested that wrapping the cable in foil could help insulate against such occurrences. However, I think they should remove "grill" from the suggested uses. This cable is really only guaranteed suitable for the oven where it will work fine. I am going to try again, because my oven has a built in probe and I really need this for the grill. If you use it make sure to use the foil trick and perhaps pull it out of the food quickly before you raise the cover completely.

The perfect no nonsense case
If you're someone like me and you like the design of the iPhone as is, and you're only buying a case for protection, then this is the case for you.The case fits snugly on the phone and all buttons feel great, if not better than before. every charger I have tried with this case has fit without me having to take off the case (which happened sometimes with previous cases I've had.)I've dropped my phone from chest height on concrete a couple of times with this and it has absorbed the impact leaving my phone spotless.Basically, unless you want some flowery design or a bulky wallet type case then this is the case for you. It's Slimline, well made, fits like a dream and is cheap to boot.

It's a phone case ...
I recently changed the rear aluminium housing for my iPhone because of years of wear and thought I'd get a nice clear case to preserve it. The case came very quick and has a nice smooth flexy-plastic quality to it, however it's only a 95% fit as the top and bottom edges do warp very slightly from the case being stretched, so dust and particles can work their way behind the phone, but not much. For this price though, who cares. It prevents damage just like it's meant to.

Sticks on well and is pretty easy to fit - the only slight issue is that my phone case seems to push against it at the corners, causing temporary bubbles at the very edges. But that's almost certainly because I didn't align it 100% perfectly when I applied it. There were two spares in the pack, so I could easily have had a second go at fitting it if this had bothered me more. As it is, I simply adjust the case fitting every so often and it's fine. The other thing is that it seems to collect grease slightly more than the phone's screen itself, but again this can be easily rectified. On the other hand, this might be that I had particularly greasy hands on the day I fitted it.Over all I think it's very good value for money - and recommend it.

Excellent
Excellent product. I've had clear phone cases in the past, but this is the best I've purchased so far. It's thin and ultra clear, fitting tight around the phone, so it seems almost invisible, therefore not detracting from the look of the phone, whereas some cases can make a phone look clumsy. It has a soft slightly rubberised feel, which feels nice and easy to handle. I would definitely recommend it.
