SUCH an underrated series
Peter Pan + Lord of the Rings + TitanicPeter and the other orphans he has grown up with are being sent away from the orphanage/school they have grown up in. They have been sold into servitude, but must travel by ship to get there. Along the way, Peter meets a friend, Molly, and is also allowed by a strange box. As always, there be pirates along the seas...This is one of my favorite series of all times! I’m sorry that I let the insane work hours take priority over keeping track of the series. This is one of my rereads that has me more excited for my reread than new books this year. Also, between a combination of time and memory loss after a medical procedure, it’s like I’m reading it for the first time again.Ridley Pearson’s daughter asked her Daddy how after and a pirate met, and this is the result. It is one of those stories that may be classified as middle grade, but easily appeals to young adults and adults alike. The world-building is marvelous, with the bulk being new masterful storytelling with touches of classic J.M. Barrie to summon loving nostalgia. Characters, new and old, are well fleshed-out and brought out string emotions from this reader. Greg Call’s illustrations are jaw-dropping (THAT COVER!!)!Buy this for yourself or anyone who loves retellings. If you’re twisted, get it for someone who gets seasick.

Fantastic!
I loved this origin story about Peter Pan. It is perfect for elementary students on up. The action starts from the very beginning and doesn’t let up. Perfect for a class read aloud. Even the most reluctant readers will find it hard to resist wondering what will happen next.

terrific fun!
Peter and the Starcatchers is a very inventive, fun book for any age. if you've seen the Broadway play and expect it the book the be exactly like it, you might be disappointed... or you might like it just as much, as I did. the language is in keeping with a book from Barrie's time, tho not as overtly formal. the characters, especially Capt. Stache, are sometimes a bit over the top, but that's just more fun for me. Each of the short chapters ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, so they're perfect for reading before bedtime with children. You just want to read on and on! Molly is a great heroine (Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson both said they wrote this book for their daughters, so Molly is a strong heroine). Peter is clever and brave, and you can certainly see how he becomes Pan. Some of the violence in the latter half of the book took me a bit by surprise - the sharp-toothed "mermaids," pirates and Slank clubbing the children, etc. but, you know, that's what pirates did back then and Peter Pan had its own violence. I love a good swash and a bit of buckle, as Black Stache says in the stage show, so i found this book quite good. you also get lovely "back stories," like how the crocodile began to tick, how Hook lost his hand, and where John Darling got his top hat. That part almost made me cry.

My grandson is still reading this book and he LOVES it. It’s well written, exciting, and full of adventure. He just turned 10 and it was a great choice for his age group! Great!

The answer to (almost) all of your questions about Neverland
This really cool "prequel" answers once and for all the burning questions you have been harboring about the man-child who lives in Neverland with other little boys. No, no - not THAT one, I'm talking about Peter Pan, the fairy-loving, pirate-hating leader of the Lost Boys. (Same thing, you say - but that's a different story altogether)It seems that Peter Pan was an orphan, who was put aboard a ship with other orphaned boys, en route to a shortened life of serving the evil King Zarboff the Third, when a chance meeting with a little girl and a mysterious crate leads to a wonderful adventure beyond his wildest dreams. The answers to the following questions are just 480 well-spaced quick-turning pages away:1. How did Peter Pan get to Neverland?2. Where the heck is it anyway?3. Where does pixie dust come from and why is it addictive?4. Tinkerbell - fairy who looks like Julia Roberts or bird brain?5. Mermaids - fish or just plain foul?6. What made the natives restless?7. Should you ever give a crocodile a hand?An often funny, action-packed piratical yarn that's sure to delight most young readers.Amanda Richards, October 19, 2006
