essential reading if you work in an office, manage people or aspire to management
E.Q. Librium is a very useful reference work aimed at helping people understand their emotions and interactions with others better. Primarily aimed at people working in office environments, especially managers and those hoping to become managers. The book is laid out in two parts. The first part of E.Q. Librium explains emotional intelligence in easy to read language yet without being dumbed down. As well as explaining the concepts there are case studies and it's also referenced to an academic standard, so if anything piques your interest then you can follow the references to as much detail as you can handle. E.Q. Librium also draws the links between good emotional intelligence and business success.Part 2 of E.Q. Librium moves on to strategies for dealing with people. Each of the difficult or obstructive types are identified and suggestions given. As well as strategies for managing conflict E.Q. Librium also deals with office politics. There are some useful suggestions in here, although best used when you are sufficiently self aware to judge the situation.E.Q. Librium also covers how to lead and develop other people. It has some useful tools for assessing how people are performing, separating competence from commitment and engagement. This helps with more sophisticated strategies for dealing with developing people. It took me some time to read all of E.Q. Librium. Although the language is easy to read, it made me think lots. It prompted questions and trains of thought that distracted me, albeit in a useful fashion. I kept dipping in and out of it, so although I've read it I'm not quite ready to say that I'm finished with E.Q. Librium.E.Q. Librium is essential reading if you work in an office, manage people or aspire to management. Having a better grip on your emotions will help you manage your own life if nothing else.I received a free copy of E.Q. Librium from an agent in return for an honest review. That copy has been living in my work bag as a reference for weeks and weeks...

No Scientific Evidence or Realistic Scenarios
If I were to make a bullet list of any actual points this book made, I would wind up with a post it notes of maybe three useful things, and I'm on chapter seven. I won't be finishing the book. The most important thing it's taught me this far is identifying my emotions, and the emotion I've identified is boredom and annoyance at how often the paragraph structure is one of two formats:Paragraph Structure A:Here's a quote from someone else's book. Here's a description of the quote, and here's a made up scene to apply it to (and i say made up because no one stays in a position for 25 years with the same company hoping for a promotion and watching everyone else get one. They would absolutely switch jobs, otherwise their reason for not getting promoted doesn't result from their "mood swings," it results from extreme lack of ambition).Paragraph Format B:Here's a point. Here's the same point rehashed. Oh, again? Let's rephrase the same point into another sentence! Haven't gotten it yet? Once more, slowly, here's the same point.I'm aware this is a book about emotions, but all that's in it are emotions. There are no facts. There is no cited science. It's not engaging. There's just "when people feel good they perform better, so make them feel good" with very few strategies so far on how to do so and instead we have the author's attempt at scenarios that may happen in an actual workplace to passively demonstrate, except the scenario comes from purely anecdotal evidence from other people's books - people who also have never actually worked anywhere (and a shamelessly frequent plug to get a life coach involved to help you realize your potential every few chapters).

The Perfect Guide to Helping Others Manage Staff and Emotions
One of the things I love is learning about myself and last year I did a course at work all about Emotional Intelligence , so when I had the opportunity to read and review EQ Librium, I jumped at the chance as I find all this information quite interesting and useful. EQ Librium is basically a guide that every working person and especially if you find yourself in a managing position that you should read as it is helpful and will open your mind to a whole lot of new ways to cope with your emotions and the emotive state of others around you. The book is split into two parts, the first is the theories and the different information specs about your emotions - which often if you are not a reader, you could find a tad boring as it does feel like it goes on and on. The second half is the perfect balance for those who love practical work as it is filled with excercises and reflections and to put into practice what you have covered in Part #1. The book is fairly easy to read, with any jargon explained in boxes throughout, there are plenty of case studies throughout demonstrating how the techniques explained actually work, I found these particularly helpful. E.Q. Librium is very worth reading if you work in an office, manage people or aspire to management. Having a better grip on your emotions will help you manage your own life if nothing else.EQ Librium will help you gather your thoughts and help in your journey to success with becoming emotionally self-aware; managing your emotions; diffusing those emotionally charged situations; strengthening your leadership skills, building healthy work relationships; and enhancing your performance.

You’ll want to take notes, read a chapter at a time, and put the ideas into action immediately.
Have you ever had a colleague who was totally brilliant, but had no clue how to handle office politics?Whenever humans are required to work together in an enclosed space, there is conflict.
