No. The lid does not seal tight enough to pack in a lunch box if you have anything that may leak such as fruit

The entire tray is L9" x W7.5" x H2" and each cube is 2" diameter at the top and holds 2oz.

Q: Why does it smell weird after freezing?

You should take the dozen food out of the container after they are frozen and put them in freezer bags. This will eliminate freezer burn. I’m assuming that’s what you are smelling. Try freezing the container empty. If the container smells funny empty then contact the manufacturer.
