What the story with the plastic on the inside. Someone gave it one star because of the plastic on the inside. Does it or Does it not have plastic?

The synthetic fiber is almost guaranteed to be plastic, along with the vast majority of all clothing made from synthetic materials (polyester, nylon, sherpa). That review was hard to read, not sure whether that's what they were talking about or not.

Is there a lot of dense, cushy padding up near the head of the bag (where it would be keeping your upper torso warm when lying in it?)

I would say that on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most padding and 1 being no padding, this sleeping bad gets a 7. I keep the bag in my truck during the winter in the event I get stuck in a snow storm. The bag has really good quality, is very warm and comfortable.
