The motion sensor of this device inconsistent if not installed/tightened properly (REVIEW UPDATED)
Review date October 19, 2020, for GE 10458 Indoor 360deg Motion-Sensing Light Control device. The device is inconsistent about the distance needed for it to sense that it needs to turn on. Sometimes it does not turn on until a person is very close to it. In the past I used another brand that worked reliably at a greater distance but did not work with Led lightbulbs. Bought this device since it works with Led lightbulbs. It makes a clicking sound when it turns on. It does turn on as needed as long as one gets close enough to it and it does turn itself off. The adjustable timer is helpful and can be adjusted so that the light stays on longer than some other light sensors. UPDATE January 25, 2022: Many months ago finally realized that i had not installed the device properly. I tightened it and now it works well.

Works well most of the time
I installed this sensor in my 2-car garage and combined it with a 1-to-5 socket adapter so it turns on 1 CFL and four LED bulbs. At first I had trouble with poor sensitivity, but I adjusted the arms of the 5-way adapter down so they didn’t get in the way, and that helped. And I also found that for some reason rotating the sensor about 45 degrees from its original location helped a lot too. Now the sensor consistently turns on whenever I open the door between the garage and the house. It doesn’t turn on when the garage door opens, but it does turn on consistently when the front bumper of my car gets within a few feet of the garage. For some reason, it seems to have a blind spot that coincides with the other door in my garage. I have to wave my arms around or it won’t turn on when I come in that door. For testing purposes I removed my 5-bulb adapter and just plugged in one bulb; it seems to work a little better but not much. It just so happens that I don’t use that door very much so for my purposes it does a good job most of the time.My old motion sensor seemed to turn on for a set amount of time after initially sensing motion and then ignored any further motion – that meant it would shut off periodically while I was working in the garage. I haven’t had that problem with this sensor. I keep it on a short timer, about 2 minutes or so, but I found it rarely turns off when I’m working in the garage since it keeps sensing my motion and resetting the timer. The one time I can remember it turning off is when I was up on a ladder and the garage door opener motor was between me and the sensor, so that’s forgivable. When set to the shortest interval it seems to shut off 45-60 seconds after last detecting motion.

MINE NEVER SHUT OFF AT ALL.
This indoor light timer was easy to install, but it did not work at all. No matter the automatic switch-off time period set, nor the type or wattage of bulb used (all of which were listed as appropriate), nor the total visual calm surrounding this unit, mine did not ever switch off at all. The unit was brand-new in its full packaging, but it never worked at all as intended. A slight twist of the intended time-trim adjuster broke it off inside the unit. The light simply stayed on non-stop. I can't speak for the experiences of other users, but speaking for mine, my unit was worthless. I WASTED MY MONEY. // Many buyers have rated this timer highly, so I am not blaming Amazon for selling me a lemon. Mine obviously is defective. However, in these difficult times during the spread of the COVID-19 virus, I have decided not to bother returning the item. My having purchased a non-working light-timer switch is an inconvenience, no doubt; however, it is neither essential nor high-priced. Thus, I simply plan to dispose of it safely and appropriately.

very limited detection range
This thing started out with about a 15' range but slowly getting smaller and on 88 degree+ days the range seems to be 5'. This is the 3rd cheapo sensor of this style I've had and they all seem to be crap.

Works great for spooky unfinished basement
All basements are spooky. Searching for the pull chain in the dark to chase the ghosts away with light is nerve-wracking. Paired with a daylight LED bulb, this motion detector lightbulb adapter is a ghost killer. Just be sure to turn the timer to the longest setting, so darkness - with its attendant ghosts - does not descend upon you unaware.
