Tim Minchin & the Heritage Orchestra

entertaining
I really enjoy Tim Minchin's music, but I was surprised to see this pairing with the Heritage Orchestra. Silly me. It's Minchin with an epic, deep, multi-dimensional sound. Not to be missed, if you enjoy his work. And if you're not familiar with his work, it's best to search for him on YouTube first. Comedic music (and poetry), or musical comedy. I love his humor, and I enjoy his music. He works with different genres of music, like Weird Al but with original compositions. Even if it wasn't funny, I'd listen. As with any Minchin performance, he's best enjoyed in full video, but for in the car or while working, the CD is really wonderful.

magic
Tim Minchin an amazing virtuoso. The breadth and scope of this man's creativity come together in waves of irreverent ,honest and beautiful lyrics. His piano playing is truly marvellous and is backed with fabulous orchestration. If you're open to new ideas and truly magical melodies this is for you. I must warn you though. This music has the potential of jumping inside your head where it will manifest in moments of its choosing. If you want fun,if you want entertainment and of course a rich tapestry of musical exploration then this is for you. If,however you're easily offended then may i suggest some elevator music. This music is dazzling and brilliant. It's not an easily traversed terrain but once you cross it your heart will never be the same.

Magnificent musical scores emblazoned with sophisticated lyrics
Tim Minchin entered my universe quite by accident on a Showtime channel. His concert, featuring the Heritage Orchestra, was mind blowing - a time worn cliché, but accurate. My husband and I have watched the telecast recording many times and were pleased that the concert was available on CD's. The lyrics are not for the faint of heart or prudish listener, but the messages conveyed are presented with humor and bawdiness that get the message across. Tim is quite possibly the muse the world has been waiting for. His talents cannot be described to a perspective viewer or listener. You must experience Tim Minchin yourself. If bad words aren't your forte, then this gentleman is not recommended. But, if being amazed and awakened to the world around you is of interest, I recommend Tim Minchin with the highest regard.

Profane, Sacriligious and Funny as hello
You need to have a great sense of humor and a love of music to appreciate Tim Minchin. He is a consummate pianist, composer and comedian all rolled up in one. At the piano he is a virtuoso. As a composer his music covers the gamut from folk to blues, to rock to symphony and is always theatrical. As a comedian nothing and no one can escape the sharp bite of his satire. His use of language is mesmerizing to the point where his turn of a phrase fills one with wonder and amazement. You need to listen to each track several times to appreciate all the aspects of this artist. One to concentrate on the lyrics, one to appreciate his artistry on the piano and one to recognize his ability to put together musical phrases a melody and a beat. I am sure he will become much more widely known in the near future although his humor will never be appropriate for broadcast television especially in the US.

I love Tim Minchin, but...
...I have to say, the orchestration really ruins it for me. Now, that's not to say that it isn't still funny (new songs "Cont" and "Cheese" are particular hits with me and my friends) and that Tim's particular humor doesn't bleed through. Part of the great pleasure of Tim Minchin, though, is his extraordinary musicianship. He's an excellent pianist, but this fact is tragically lost amid all of the violin scraping and ornamentation that the orchestra piles into each track. "Not Perfect" was absolutely ruined for me, because it now sounds like the token thoughtful song on a Disney soundtrack.tl;dr--If you like Tim Minchin, buy one of his unaccompanied albums, like "Ready For This." The music is better and the comedy clearer.

Hilarious
Just discovered this gem of a man - comedian, musician, social commentator. He's brilliant in his writing and perfection in his delivery. Absolutely every song is fantastic. "Not Perfect" and "White Wine in the Sun" kill me with their heartfelt and stunning renditions. "Thank You God" continues to crack me up, and I damn near busted a gut with "Cage/Nerd."If you're already a fan, this is already in your hands. If you're not, this is an excellent album to start with.

Brilliant
After discovering Tim Minchin on Californication (as Atticus Fetch), we found this beautiful recording of his live performance with the Heritage Orchestra at London's Royal Albert Hall. His stand-up and musical commentaries are spot-on, clever, and yet full of heart. If you can't handle "naughty words", don't get this. If you're attached to your religious beliefs, don't get this. If you're an open-minded, reasonable person, I think you'll laugh your butt off -- and become a lifelong rabid fan of Tim Minchin.

Love Tim Minchin...
But wish this album included more than just the songs. All dialogue and transitions are cut out. Since the DVD is impossible to get in the U.S. (for some reason they refuse to release it in a Region 1 format), this is all we're left with. Disappointed that it's so chopped down. But does include many of Tim's brilliant songs (mixed in a with a few duds, but every one can't be a gem). Definitely an album Tim fan should own, though.

Typical Tim Minchin!
If you're offended by gratuitous swearing, anti-religious people or gingers this is not for you. If you don't mind swearing, and are happy to hear some straight talking from an Aussie Ginger go for it!

Wonderful music, wonderful comedy
A brilliant mix of music and comedy, the heritage orchestra do a fantastic job in lifting up Tim's coolest songs and making them something new and vibrant.Would definitely recommend (large dynamic range though, so you'll have to turn it up a lot to hear the talking inbetween - could be a problem for late night listening without use of a compressor).

Tim Minchin shines through this whole set with both humour and soul with truly beautiful support from the orchestea
Worth it just for the masterpieces that are"Lullaby" and "Prejudice". Tim Minchin shines through this whole set with both humour and soul with truly beautiful support from the orchestea. An absolute must have.

The man's a genius! Bought as a present for my grown up son and he who loves it, too. You probably won't want to buy it if you have no sense of humour/have a strong religious faith.

Brilliant musician with thought provoking statements
Tim Minchin is an amazingly talented artist. While his songs seem rude and silly, they often contain powerful statements and are great fun. Worth a try for every cerebrally minded liberal.
