How do you use prill beads?  Do you put the whole bag in water? How long do they last?

Put the whole bag in a about 1 gallon container, glass or glazed. Sun tea jars with a spigot work well. The 3 oz bag of Prills will process about 1,000 gallons of water. It will last longer in soft water, especially distilled or RO filtered.

Question 2

I had two bags, one got hard and the other the beads stayed loose.  The hard bunch should I throw them or are they still good.

You just need to wash them.  Hold them under running water and agitate the beads with your fingers (while still in their bag).  In a couple minutes you should see the "dirty" water coming out of the bag turn clear.  I rub the beads back and forth between my hands once they break loose to make sure I get all of them clean.  I have some prill beads that I've used for 10 years or longer and as long as I wash them when they start clumping together, they still work great.  I don't think they ever go bad.

Will it matter if I place the bag in only a 1/2 gallon mason jar instead of a 1 gallon size? I am so excited to try Prill water. Thank you so much.

I've only used it in a gallon jar; I fill it back up when it's about 1/3 full. In the beginning, the prills left a white coating on the jar that I had to continually wash out for about 2 weeks or so - I'm guessing if you use just a 1/2 gallon jar it might take longer for that to stop happening. I don't think it matters about the size of the jar though. I think the only reason a gallon is preferred is because of how often you would have to refill the container and how long you have to wait to drink the water. You have to fill it and let it soak the first time for 24 hours, then when it's down to about 1/3 full, refill and let it sit for at least 2 hours. When you have to wash out the container frequently in the beginning it's difficult to have enough water on hand. I recommend the 1 gallon jar for ease of use. "Ball" brand has a great jar for this use.
