Q: How much actual BERBERINE is in a serving? The seller's prior responses seem ... suspect.

Berberine and barberry extract are the same, apples to apples. I have researched this quite a bit. You should be able to take the same dosage of both, so the recommended dosage on the bag is correct.

Q: Does this taste like dried barberries?

No it does not taste like barberries because the powder is made from the root part of the plant. To me it tastes a little nutty but really not much of any kind of flavor to speak of, very mild.
