Good, for certain applications
This little device is perfect as long as you have room to plug it in. It extends out about two inches from the hdmi port you're converting, not counting the length of the vga plug on the cable you use. The audio jack plugs horizontally into the side of the adapter, which may not be good if you have several closely spaced hdmi ports. I have tested 720p signal going to a computer monitor with mixed results. The video shows up and is clear, but the image is neither full screen nor centered on the monitor, instead being vertically centered and starts at the left edge of the screen. This is mostly okay for my use of making an old computer monitor into a game console using a playstation TV, but is not ideal asthetically. I'm guessing this is happening because my monitor is a weird native resolution, somewhere between 720 and 1080. If you have a "correct" native resolution, you may never notice this effect. But an image does appear, and there is sound, so I can't really complain.

Problems quickly addressed.
Had intermittent problems - worked sometimes then would cut out and would only work again when the computer was re - booted.. Believe something inside the adapter was loose. When I removed Male VGA cable ( from monitor ) to see if reconnecting would make a difference, female VGA connector detached from rest of adapter. No way to put back together - small thin wires inside ( that do the translation from VGA to HDMI ) are impossible to line up correctly. When Seller heard about problem, they promptly and graciously replaced the bad unit. New unit is working correctly but is still susceptible to problems if computer is bumped or slightly moved. Would be better if adapter connected to the VGA cable with screws that come on each VGA cable.

Worked great, so I bought a second one!
This is my second one of these to buy. I have a fairly new laptop, meaning it's new enough that it doesn't have a VGA port. Our church, on the other hand, isn't new enough to have an HDMI connection for the projector. This adapter works absolutely great, without any detectable degradation of the projected image. For what I use it for, I don't need the audio connection, so I can't say whether it works well or not, but I don't have any reason to suspect it doesn't. (Incidentally, the reason I bought a second one isn't because the first one broke; it's still going working well. I bought a second one because when I travel to our vacation home, I have an external monitor there with only a VGA connection. I wanted one to leave there.)

Gaming HDMI to VGA problem solved!
Now that the Xbox One only uses HDMI it made things way more difficult for me. I played on a PC monitor that had no HDMI port. I needed a converter and this product works wonders! just connect the HDMI side into the system and have a VGA cable that's connects to the VGA port and your monitor. (Note that it will only display when you first put in the converter into the HDMI port of the system first then the VGA cable. If the VGA cable is already connected to the converter and plug it in all at once it will not display) took me awhile to figure this out and the audio works great. So yes invest in this product if your in the same boat I was 5/5 stars! Good luck.

Compatible with some projectors, not all.
It tested well with one projector and an HD TV, but failed with three other (probably older) projectors. In one failure, the screen had a very enhanced projected green channel, in another failure the projected screen had shifts and duplications, and in the last case the screen did not project. The screen's source was either an iPadMini 2 or an iPhone5 connected to this adapter via an Apple's Lighting to HDMI converter. The adapter seems not very robust to all kinds of projectors via an original Apple converter for IOS devices.

Excellent Converter
Excellent product. This is very small and does exactly what it says. I use this since my work laptop has only 1 VGA output and an HDMI output, so to have two monitors I needed a converter to VGA. There is no lag compared to other ones I have tested an returned to store.Pros:Small so it would be good for travelNo external power supply neededCan have audio output with adapterNo lag from the conversionCons:No screws to connect the VGA cord withNot the snuggest fit in the computer (could be my computer though so not taking any stars off)All in all if you need a converter this is excellent

Issues with sound
Video only works with 720P does not work with 1080P tried and would not work with Amazon fire TV stick. Audio is bad and must be moved back and forth until sound is clear, tried different cables still have issue hope the unit is bad and not how this item works all the time. Sometimes i can get one channel of sound clear and other times the sound is crackle and popping

Works with Ouya
This thing works great with an Ouya hooked up to an ancient LCD with only DVI (no HDMI). The included 1/8" cable was a pleasant surprise, too. I removed a star because the audio out has some weird flutter noise when it's powered down, but that may be my setup. Figured it was worth mentioning.
