Perfect tactical flashlight, gives Surefire a run for the money
This is a high quality flashlight made in the US. Maglite claims they developed it together with the US military, and after using the light, I believe it. This light is very different from earlier Maglites, both in brightness and user interface. It is not an ideal daily use and carry light for most people, but it is great for military, police, etc applications. Here is why:Pros:- Great user interface. Press and hold for as short or long as you want for momentary light. Two fast clicks for constant high. Three fast clicks for low. If you want small bursts of light, this works just fine -- it does not turn on constantly (you need really quick followup clicks for constant on). In my opinion this is a better interface than anything Surefire has to offer, because SF has either forward clickies or constant on requires a two handed twist.- Very sturdy construction. I was surprised how thick the walls of this light are. The thickest I have seen, and I do have quite a few flashlights.- Beefy pocket clip which is adjustable in height. The clip is plastic, which is easier on your pants and does not scratch cars, walls, etc as much as metal does.- Knurling on the body looks good and at the same time is it flat and smooth, unlikely to damage pants and pockets.- Bright! 310 lumen high is plenty outdoors. Indoors the low is fairly bright; they claim it is 45 lumens but by comparing with other lights, I think it may be 100.- Beam has a bright hotspot with good spill on the sides. Not really floody, but it fits with the intended purpose of the light.- Nice anodized body color. Mine is the foliage green, which is actually a nice olive drab type color. Urban grey and tan also look good.- It can tailstand. The tail button is slightly recessed and the bottom is flat. You can put this light on a table pointing up and light up a whole room.- Runs fine on 3.0 V rechargeable batteries. Comes with two Panasonic non-rechargeables so you can use it immediately.- Center of mass is in the middle (slightly towards the rear), so it is comfortable to hold and not front-heavy.- Made in USA! I can't think of another US light of this sort that offer more value for the money.- Lifetime warranty.Cons:- Too thick. It is slightly thicker than an inch, 26mm. They could have made the body thinner. As is, it is not as pocketable, depending on how you want to carry it.- The pocket clip is such that no matter how you adjust it, a decent portion of the tail switch will be visible outside your pocket. Not very discreet.- Large for a 2x CR123 light, esp. compared to brands like Fenix and 4Sevens. This is party of the sturdy design, but again, not as compact to carry.- Too bright for indoors. 300+ lumens is too much on white walls, and the low is not low enough for late night trips to the bathroom :) The low setting is more of a battery saver than something intended to preserve night vision.- The front lens is plastic and it is not anti-reflective coated. Potential for scratches and optically not as good as coated glass.- Bluish beam color. Definitely cold, not warm light. Perhaps a touch of purple even. So it is far from a high-color-rendition light, but neither is Surefire or Fenix.Overall, I am very happy with the light. Given it's size and brightness, it is not my primary light, but it is a thoroughbred I really enjoy using. I was trying to decide whether to buy the Surefire EB1, and this light is in my opinion superior. In fact, I think it combines the best features of Surefire and HDS Systems, two leading US flashlight manufacturers, but it costs significantly less than either.Recommended.

I love this light! Heavy duty, great clip, excellent
I carry two flashlights: a Maglite XL50 in a holster on my belt and this in my pocket. I carry the XL50 because it's small, similar form factor, uses AAA batteries and is just plain handy for almost everything. If the XL50 could use the same pocket clip, I'd LOVE to have one on my XL50. I've suggested this to Maglite on their website, though I doubt anything will come of it.I got the Mag-Tac to have a light with a momentary touch switch. It's also very bright and more useful at night at longer distances. The Mag-Tac is a LOT brighter than the XL50, but so much so that using it for "normal" stuff every day seems like overkill (that and the batteries are quite pricey). I don't much care for the use of CR123 batteries, but the trade-off is a LOT more light in about the same size package. XL50 is rated at 139 lumens while the Mag-Tac is rated at 310 lumens.I got the plain bezel because I didn't want the scalloped head ripping through my pants pocket over time since I usually carry the light with the pocket clip. I liked that there were several colors to choose from. Over time, I may get a couple more, but I suspect other things will pop up that seem more important.Overall, I've been pretty disappointed with Maglites since they've started using LEDs. I've carried a Xenon AA maglite for many years and loved it, and the new LED twist-to-select modes are maddeningly infuriating. I think I've given away all of my LED AA Maglites they annoyed me so much. Except for the battery life, I really don't like the LED 3D Mags either. Being able to take the cap off and illuminate a whole area was a great feature and one that I have sorely missed. The XL50 and now this Mag-Tac have restored much of my happiness with Maglite, though I've still got a bad taste in my mouth from their transition to LED.I also got one of these Storacell Powerpack for CR123 for throwing in the glovebox so I've got spare batteries that aren't just rolling around. www.amazon.com/Duracell-Batteries-Storacell-Powerpax-SlimLine/dp/B00CGLZLNM

Nice Tail Switch
Mag Lite has been known for using on off switches on the side of their flashlights however, these models have a tail switch which is so much better to use since the light is shaped round and you have to hunt for the side switch. With these, you hold the light any position and know the on off switch is on the tail. Works much better this way. These lights put out a good brightness and are small enough to carry in your jeans. Very handy light for just about anything.

Great, but races through batteries
Awesome, sturdy flashlight. But batteries don't last and I'm using Energizer lithium. But that's the price of having so much brightness in such a little flashlight. I bought a much cheaper version and it was total trash.

It works as advertised and made in the USA.
Bought this because I wanted to use a flashlight that was American made and was bright. Using Procell batteries I regularly get the runtimes printed on the box. Works well and it is competitively priced against streamlight (which is made in china). Unlike alot of other choices this one doesn't scratch up my pocket because of the regular bezel.

MagLite-Great stuff!
Have been using MagLite products since Desert Storm back in 1990. These devices are quality made and durable. Have not had opportunity to report on battery consumption as it is only lit for maybe about 2-3 minutes max each day while performing inspection. I put it in a neoprene sleeve that I picked up from BestB**. The sleeve should do a good job protecting it. Made a fast look in Wal**** looking for these cl123 batteries did not see any to find out how much they are gonna run in price. Had two of these lights for at least a month now and have no complaints other than maybe I could not get into the packaging in a reasonable time.

Fantastic
Fantastic little light. Shockingly bright, with clever adjustment fire mode/brightness adjustment. Very solidly built/engineered. Cool-looking, too. Easy to stow in a drawer, etc. for emergencies or for camping, etc. Highly recommended.

Charmanter Dinosaurier

Consigliata.
