Best and only still blank Dat Tapes still produced for recording
I Had a Sony Dat recorder years ago, it finally stopped working, about 2 years ago, while at a record/game store they had a used nearly new Sony Dat recorder for $40, I snapped it up right away. I had not known how hard and expensive the tapes had become to buy. I found out that the Ampex made in Japan are still being produced. The price here is about what the average one goes for. Myself I have found them other places in bulk at $6-7 each. But these tapes really work great just dont run them out to the 124min., stop recording your music at 122min. the last 2min. of the tape has way to many errors. I love Dat as you can still record on these tapes uncompressed music and even 5.1dts, 5.1 PCM and 5.1 dolby digital(not copy guarded). Love the look and feel of the Vintage and nostalgic way of the tapes, but you still get the modern uncompressed quality of sound. Sure a CD will do uncompressed but only at 16 bit and 44,100k, the Sony Dat does 20bit at 48,000k and you can record 5.1 surround sound which you can do on a normal CD. I use the tapes to put the best of the best of my CD's and or uncompressed 5.1 from DVD audio, DTS audio, SACD, Blu Ray and DVD dobly digital I have bought, I like to have the 2 hour mixed tapes to play back just sitting around enjoy high quality sound on my THX Yamaha Sound system.
