Q: Would this make a good keylight?

Absolutely Yes! It gets really bright and has a remote for power or dimming. I have instantly noticed a huge improvement in my videos by adding this keylight; and I am glad I didn't have to spend the $800+ for similar lights. I would however note that you would want a stronger stand to affix it to. The one that came with my kit is bending slightly due to the weight of the light, so I hesitate to extend it as high as it can go. That's my only disappointment, but at this price I would easily buy this light again and simply swap out the stand. I hope this helps.

I had trouble with this too. You have to pull each metal slat away from the center one by one. Pull them firmly until they click.
