Simple and enlightening
Pumped gas as as a kid in two different garages, so I understand a little about cars, mechanics, and parts. Yet, after reading this book, I now understand so much more. That alone, in the long run, could save me money.

Thank you!
I would definatly use this book in understanding my car and how it works. It covered very simple things that should be covered for all drivers, to some the more complex. I think early drivers would enjoy this book as a reference, and yes, most older drivers. I have found that research and understanding your car is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself or your children. I found the codes to be useful. Many of this information can be found on the internet, but not in once place. This succinctly puts all you would ever know in a place you can find it. It is definatley not a repair manual. But it would make a great companion to the Hanes (which is a more detailed repair manual and far more useful than the owners manual). Things I have learned through this book, that I have a V engine and what the means, and that getting an oil check less often probably isn't going to ruin my car (relieved) although it was suggested I look at owners manual. I didn't really study the book throughly, but found myself glued to the area I know is a problem with my car, like the catlytic converter. Just knowing how things work can be really helpful. I think all automotive stores (or at least some of the ones that work on cars)should carry this, ever notice they don't carry informative stuff like this..it's cause they don't want you to know, but YOU want to know..trust me. Thanks for this new way of researching. I look forward to your other books!

Comprehensive and straightforward
This book is awesome! It cuts through all of the jargon to the meat and potatoes of how cars function. It's elegant in its simplicity, and teaches you what you need to know to hold your own on a conversation on cars.

Great book! Now I can talk to my mechanic intelligently.
How Your Car works by Keith Smith describes what I, as a novice, wanted to know about all the various systems of my automobile. Its information is concise, yet not overly detailed, and will allow me to talk to and understand my mechanic intelligently. It is chock full of good advise that will help me care for my automobile. I'd recommended it to anyone who would like to talk to their auto mechanic intelligently.

Easy to read
Although the book is written by a mechanic, his writing is easy to understand. I didn't know how cars work, and this book helped me with that.

The information I wanted did not appear in this book
Didn't get any information from this book, total waste of money, given it to the local hospice shop not worth the money

Good Intro to How Cars Work. Low Resolution Diagrams in Kindle Version.
Overall, the book fulfills its purpose for me in describing the basic principles of how cars work.It doesn't go into too many technical details, so you won't be able to jump into maintaining your car right after reading this book, but instead you will be armed with basic knowledge of how major components in your car operate. The only negative is that the diagrams (at least in the Kindle version of the book) are of low resolution making it hard to read the component labels in most of the graphics. Hence, 4 instead of 5 stars for the review.
