Read this book - if you work in libraries or love them
You feel like he is talking to you. The book is outstanding because he describes the work of libraries and those in it with honor and reverence. Now along with at, is a tremendous challenge to develop conversation skills, sit next to the customer vs across a desk and to be advocates. Lankes is a master and a huge gift to the world of librarianship. I love how he says a room of books is a closet, but a room with nothing in it but a Librarian is a library. It's us not the stuff! Please read this book! It will change you for the better!!!

Superficial and not attuned
This book is a compilation of the ideas of other peoples work and does not reflect the current state of libraries and the needs of users. I wish I could return.

A Badly Needed Socially Conscious Book On Librarianship. It Addresses The Human Side Of Its Subject.
With librarianship being in danger of being lost to automation the need for socially conscious librarians who are active both in their libraries and in their communities is at its greatest. This books helps to fulfill that need. KUDOS TO THIS BOOK AND ITS AUTHOR !!!!

A New Lens for Viewing the Profession
This is a truly enjoyable read. Lankes has a very deep dive here that any librarian could benefit from reading.

The Atlas of New Librarianship
